"Jack was right. He was right all along."

Well, duh. Isn’t he always?
That’s what I love about “24″ — Jack’s always absolutely, positively, unalterably RIGHT all the time. And yet despite the fact that it’s been proven again and again and again and again, somehow, at the key moment, no on believes him. Why? Who knows? But at least it gives some comic relief against the relentless drumbeat of action.
And how about that Jack? The man kills another man with his teeth not even an hour into the season!! His kill count’s going to be through the roof this year — despite his initial relunctancy to even torture another man. I kind of like this vulnerability. Before, he just always seemed made of Teflon.
I’m not sure how much I like this kindler, gentler Chloe, though. I loved her because she was always so surly and obnoxious. I hope being back together w/her ex doesn’t take too much of that edge off.
All in all, an excellent start. But I have a feeling I’m going to be yelling for Wayne Palmer to get a spine before the season’s half through. David Palmer, he ain’t.

I've been avoiding this show for years—how long has it been on?—but last night caught most of both "hours." Maybe it was the euphoria of my beloved Chicago Bears advancing in the playoffs.
Observations:
This guy is a remarkably quick healer.
The Chinese might have tortured him for 20 months, whipping him, denying him Internet access, making him grow a really bad beard, but he must have been able to brush and floss regularly to keep his choppers in "death by chewing carotid artery" condition.
Are the villains always so, well, villainous on "24"? Do tell.
What did terrorists do before cell phones? Could that form of communication be responsible for the world's terror cells? And does anyone believe the White House is a secure communications outpost? Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if this year's plot hinges on AT&T's merger with Cingular.
don't know about anyone else, but i was really looking forward to a show-down with the chinese this season. we already have enough muslim extremism in real life to think about!
that being said, however, last night's episode was – as always – awesome. i mean, jack killed a man by biting his neck for crying out loud! how sick was that?
and peter – yeah, the villains are always villainous and jack only needs about 5 minutes to heal from any injury! give in and enjoy the show!
Pete:
1) Jack Bauer has nearly the healing powers of Wolverine, from the X-Files. The only reason he has scars on his back and hands is because he wants you to know how much he was tortured.
• 1a) Tony Almeida had nearly as strong healing powers, seeing as in one season (help me out here, folks, Season 3 or 4?) he was shot in the head and was up and running again a mere couple hours later. Of course, then he was killed last season.
2) Jack could have killed the guy just by looking at him, but he thought biting him to death would be more dramatic.
3) There is no gray area on 24. The villains are absolutely, positively, non-redeemably evil. Just like in real life.
Bob:
I think you're onto something. I have to admit, though, I was a bit disappointed that with all their secrecy, they're found out in one 2-minute phone call? Of course, once Chloe's on the case, there isn't a transmission on the planet that she can't find within the hour.
As for the White House, this is the first time this much action has taken place in D.C. Usually, the president "happens" to be in LA for some reason.
24Phan:
I kind of agree. I was thinking last night that same thing. But did you notice the suicide bomber on the LA bus at the beginning of the episode looked to be Asian, rather than Mideastern? Perhaps the Chinese are really behind the bombings and are funding Fayed? Just remember that by the 24th hour, whatever you thought in the first hour is turned on its head and those you think were evil are usually not the most evil.
Thanks, all, for reading and keep those comments coming!
Remember the "heavy price" we paid to get Jack out of prison? We'll learn more about that, too.
Yes, I think it was Wayne Palmer's spine.
