Oh my God. Finally.
Finally, finally, finally.
They got someone who actually KNOWS something about fashion to comment on the red carpet fashions at the Oscars.
It’s about time!
The honor goes to Hastings-on-Hudson’s Andre Leon Talley, who—as any fashionista worth her Prada knows—is the fabulously flamboyant editor-at-large of Vogue.
Laura Ziskin, the telecast producer for the Feb. 25 Academy Awards, made the announcement yesterday, saying of Talley:
“We wanted to do something different and bigger in the way of acknowledging the part couture fashion plays on the red carpet, said Ziskin. “Who better than the fashion aficionado himself to highlight the glamour?
Talley will be one of four commentators on the half-hour show, though presumably, those others would focus on asking dippy non-fashion-related questions like “Who are you excited to see tonight?”
Unlike many of his counterparts covering the arrivals, Talley will actually KNOW who the actors are and whether they’re nominated (unlike clueless and couldn’t-care-less “Joan Rivers”:http://www.joanrivers.com/) and ask cleverer questions than “Who are you wearing?” (like dopey “Ryan Seacrest”:http://www.ryanseacrest.com/).
And heavens, I’m sure he won’t be obscene like “Isaac Mizrahi”:http://www.thesuperficial.com/2006/01/17/video_scarlett_johansson_gets.html, whose bosses at E! apparently forgot to tell him that it’s a no-no to fondle the celebrities when he did their fashion coverage last year.
Talley’s day job guarantees he’ll get A-listers to stop and chat, too. Even sourpusses like Angelina Jolie knows the power of Vogue, which might stop her from “scowling through an interview”:http://popsugar.com/111613 like she did with Seacrest at the Golden Globes.
(Then again, that was the best part of watching that ho-hum event …)
So let’s cheer for Talley when he takes charge of the runway—oops, red carpet—next month. The Oscars air on ABC, starting at 8 p.m.
And tell me this, what questions do YOU want Talley to ask the rich and famous?
