So much “Lost news, so little time!
That’s why I decided to compile a list of fun facts that I came across online today – which shed more light on last night’s episode, as well as those to come.
First, I’m wild about the show, but I’d say I’m a casual fan. I don’t really have a theory about what the island is: I’m more along for the joyride. And I don’t overanalyze every single piece of information offered in each episode. (If you actually remember where Desmond’s former lover, Penny Widmore, lives in London, you’re a genius. Or you have too much time on your hands. You decide.)
So most of the time, I don’t catch the subtle clues slipped into each episode – which the “Lost creators call “Easter eggs. They’re incredibly interesting, and I’m amazed at the folks who have the patience to go back and slo-mo their TiVos to catch some of them.
Anyway, here are some of the “Easter eggs from last night’s episode that I’ve gathered from various online sources devoted to the show. (The links below provide more info, if you’re interested.)
• The biomedical lab that’s trying to recruit Juliet is named Mittelos, which is an anagram for “Lost Time.
There’s already a Web site reserved for the fictitious company—that’s gone in and out of service today. But this “Web site”:http://spoilerslost.blogspot.com/2007/02/anagram-and-new-site.html says fans have already hacked inside and discovered a video made of a little girl for “Auntie Julieâ€? (the daughter of Juliet’s sister ?). Then there’s a garbled message from what I think is a Hanso employee at the end.
Check it out: It’s totally freaky!
• Getting back to that anagram, time was apparently a theme of the night. “The book”:http://www.thetailsection.com/lost_spoilers/what_was_aldo_researching.php that the bunker guard, Aldo, is reading is Stephen Hawking’s “A Brief History of Time.â€? The chapter he’s reading is about black holes, which may bend time and space.
• Juliet tells Jack she’s been on the island for 3 years, 2 months and 23 days. Some “savvy fanatics”:http://spoilerslost.blogspot.com/2007/01/not-in-portland-detailed-episode-info.html figured out that means—according to the “Lostâ€? timeline – she arrived on the island somewhere close to 9/11.
• When Juliet visits her sick sister to give her another fertility shot, she flicks on a lamp on the night stand. You can see the “Dharma symbol”:http://www.buddytv.com/articles/lost/lost-not-in-portland-easter-eg-3805.aspx on the lamp.
• Karl is being held in room 23, and Juliet’s passcard to the biomedical lab is marked with A-4. Both are part of the show’s “mystery numbers”:http://thelostnumbers.blogspot.com/.
Next, I wanted to give everyone a heads up to this article from “Entertainment Weekly”:http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20010504,00.html. Producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof discuss a bunch of questions that have been driving fans nutty. Sounds like the rest of this season will answer a lot of them, including whether Jack and Claire are half-siblings. (They say that last one will be answered in the next six episodes.)
But one thing I found interesting is that Cuse and Lindelof say the Michael and Walt story will be revived – but probably not until Season 4.
Interesting because actor Harold Perrineau (Michael) just signed on to a “CBS pilot”:http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/search/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003542711 called “Demons.â€? (Thanks to co-blogger Amy Vernon for this tip and others!)
I’d always thought that those two were long gone because of the real-life problem of having Malcolm David Kelley – who plays Walt – suddenly age a few years, when the castaways have only been on the island a few months.
I guess they could replace the actor, but that seems too soap opera-esque for “Lost. But a lot could be explained by a space-time continuum … hmmm.
A lot to think about, right? So let me throw out an opinion that doesn’t require as much thought.
With all due respect to the New York Times – which has writers far cleverer than I – the TV critic should probably have to watch a show before she slams it.
Go “here and scroll”:http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/07/arts/television/07watc.html?ref=television to the correction at the end of the story to find out what I’m talking about…
