At least Rip and Tracey will have something to chat about between takes tonight

OK, so I know tonight’s 30 Rock was shot weeks ago. Still, you can only imagine that series star Tracey Morgan and guest star Rip Torn, two comics without much in common in terms of age and style, would have benefited from an easy conversation starter on the set. Now let’s see, what is the one thing they have in commom? Hmmm, what could it be?
Oh, that’s right!

That stunning publicity still of Torn was taken the night of his Dec. 4 arrest in North Salem on drunk driving charges. Morgan (for whom a decent mug shot I was disappointed not to find), meanwhile, pleaded guilty yesterday in a Manhattan Criminal Court to Driving While Intoxicated.
It seems that not even a week before Torn’s North Salem joyride, the second funniest man on television (behind Steve Carell, naturally), was stopped by police in a Cadillac Escalade on the Henry Hudson Parkway in Manhattan reaking of booze. That he failed a breathalyzer test only becomes more remarkable when you consider it came less than a year after he did the same for Hollywood police.
The $390 fine and 36 months’ probation he received then apparently didn’t teach him a lesson. Maybe the $1,000 fine, doctor-supervised alcohol program and community service he agreed to yesterday will do the trick. He’ll be sentenced in August.
Morgan must be eager to start his community service,which his attorney said will likely include lecturing to kids about the dangers of drinking and driving. On his way out of the courtroom yesterday, he apologized for his behavior and said he would never be in that situation again.
“Drinking and Driving is not cool,” Morgan said.
Save it for Rip, OK?
