Hey Alec, watch where you put that cigar

So I’m tuning in to USA Today’s Pop Candy podcast, and I’m pretty pumped up because Whitney Matheson is as reliably good a listen as she is an entertaining read. (And I’m not just saying that because she’s a fellow Gannetteer.) Plus it makes me feel hip to catch up on all the new music Whitney plays from bands I’ve never heard of.
You know, in case it comes up in conversation.
Anyway, she’s chatting with Jack McBrayer, who plays the hilarious Kenneth the NBC Page on 30 Rock, for an interview that ran at Pop Candy earlier this month. Right off, I’m thinking: blog fodder. And the funny thing is, Jack’s got the same personality in real life – though obviously not as dim-witted – as he has on the show as Kenneth: real relaxed, Southern and as gracious as can be – about what you’d expect from a Georgia native.
Well, the conversation turns to Alec Baldwin, and McBrayer just gushes awe and praise. Without giving too much away, Whitney asks Jack his favorite “Alec moment,â€? and it’s one Jack got prior approval from the man himself to share.
“One day we were shooting on a golf course in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. at a beautiful country club,â€? the story begins, “and he’s sitting there with a cigar.â€? (I figure it’s Sleepy Hollow Country Club, since Trump National is just up the road but in Briarcliff Manor.) So far so good, right? On the links with McBrayer and Baldwin are fellow 30 Rock funny man Tracy Jordan and two others actors. Apparently, Baldwin at some point turned around quickly to ask for his next cue, not realizing one of the other actors was right behind him.
“As he turns around, he puts the cigar out in that dude’s face, McBrayer relates, unable to keep from laughing. “He turns around, and the lit cigar goes in that man’s mouth.
An apologetic Baldwin soon turned his attention to relighting his doused stogey, according to McBrayer, who speculated the man was just happy to have his own unique Baldwin tale to tell. Baldwin may have sensed this. “And Alec was like, ‘Please don’t tell Page Six,’ McBrayer said.
You can go here to check the entire interview, but for the full effect I really recommend you check out the audio over at iTunes.

That actor who got a mouthful should have realized that coffee is for closers.
