Office-less Thursday

Did you notice that the sun didn’t rise this morning? What’s more, roosters didn’t crow, mail carriers called in sick and Britney Spears didn’t even check in or out of rehab. It’s like a black hole of a day.
Want more proof? Check your local TV listings. That’s right, The Office isn’t on. Not even a newpeat.
Never fear, though, because your Office connection is here with lots of Dunder-Mifflin goodness to help carry you through the dark days of early spring. (Bet’cha never heard that phrase before.)
If you’ve never felt the urge to pick up a copy of Wired Magazine before, Jenna Fischer on the cover should provide all the motivation you need. Seems a creative writer on staff decided to take a serious look at the paper industry and Dunder-Mifflin’s place in it. I’m half-tempted to call the guy and tell him the company doesn’t really exist.
Here’s an excerpt:
“Generally, the market for Wall Street snuff films doesn’t kick in until after a firm’s Enron-like implosion. But since the documentary began filming, most of the employees at the camera-infested Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch have embraced transparency. (Ed. note: None moreso than Fischer on the cover.) After all, openness builds consumer trust, which will move any product-even dead trees. Why? Because “business is always personal,” in the words of Michael Scott, regional manager at the Scranton Office.”
Speaking of beautiful women from The Office appearing in magazines, Rashida Jones graces the pages of TV Guide this week for its – and I’m not making this up – Sexy Issue. For some reason, instead of interviewing Jones for the brief cutline, the mag asked Ed Helms, who plays her character’s fellow ex-Stamfordite to weigh in.“One of the things Rashida and I have in common is that we’re both closet dorks. We both sang in a cappella groups in college. Occasionally, we’ll just sort of break into a cappella renditions of stupid songs just to keep each other amused. To me, anybody who doesn’t mind acting like an ass is admirable.”
Kate Flannery, who plays the lush-ous Meredith, dances around some serious spoiler action in her latest blog for TVGuide.com. All she’ll give up, though, is that the cast has been shooting on location and in cars all week, and that it’s been exhausting. Kate’s apparently not enamored of the newpeat experiment. Brian Baumgartner and Jenna Fischer have updated their myspace blogs, too.
USA Today gave front page-play in the Life section to the cast’s recent cinematic success, from Rainn Wilson’s “The Last Mimzy” (due out tomorrow) to Jenna Fischer’s part in “Blades of Glory” (March 30) and Steve Carell’s upcoming “Evan Almighty” (Due this summer) and “Get Smart” (starting shooting soon). I’d link to the article, but I’m physically holding it in my hand. Though I did find this link at Give Me My Remote.
Ed Helms returns to his native Atlanta this weekend to help support the Horizon Theater. To find out what that is, check out the interview he gave to CreativeLoafing.com. Here’s his insight into how Andy Bernard can be so annoying…
“Oh, I just tap into my Atlanta upbringing. Really, it’s kind of fun to take all of the things that annoy you about other people and lump them into one guy. People with rage issues and control issues are fun to make fun of.”
A little bit of Dwight Schrute zen that can be found by dialing 1-800-984-3672. This is the same number found on the business card included in Best Buy’s “Severance Package” Season 2 DVD set last fall. But the message is new. Thanks to OfficeTally for the tip.
Now if all that doesn’t soothe your Office withdrawal (and it probably doesn’t), check out these spoiler-y production stills from the upcoming “Negotiation” episode posted at JustJared. (Warning – Not for the faint-of-heart Jammer!)
