Continuing our countdown to the beginning of the end of “The Sopranos on April 8, here’s today’s hot topic:
What character had the best death scene … so far?
“The Sopranosâ€? is known for its merciless whackings: The show’s offed more than one beloved (and not-so-beloved) character in its six seasons. And it’s assumed that there’ll be more before the finale in June.

And even though this is a show about mobsters, not all of the dearly departed looked down the barrel of a gun.
Remember Tony’s soldier Gigi Cestone? Keeled over from a heart attack while he was on the toilet. Tony’s nutso former mistress, Gloria, hanged herself. As did wiseguy Eugene, after Tony told him that he couldn’t retire from the family business.
And, of course, nothing beats a death like Ralphie’s: He lost his head after Tony lost his temper and strangled him.
If you need to refresh your memory, check out “this Associated Press story”:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17846843/ about a recent panel discussion with creator David Chase and five of the actors whom he killed off: Steve Buscemi (Tony Blundetto), Drea de Matteo (Adriana La Cerva), Vincent Pastore (Salvatore “Big Pussyâ€? Bonpensiero), David Proval (Richie Aprile) and Annabella Sciorra (Gloria Trillo).

That list is like a perfect antipasto: Lots of great choices.
After all, Big Pussy was a rat and the first major character to go, showing that no one was safe on “The Sopranos. Then there’s Richie: We all knew that this loose cannon was going to die eventually, but did anyone think it would be Janice who blew him away?
My personal favorite, though, has to be Adriana’s death last season. It was a long time coming: No one survives once these goombahs know you’ve talked to the Feds. But even so, you kept hoping she’d somehow survive.

Her pathetic sobbing crawl through the forest before Silvio shoots her made me want to cry. That scene is one of the best in the entire series, in my opinion. I wouldn’t call Adriana exactly an innocent bystander, but she was as close as the show comes to one. There’s a reason de Matteo – and Michael Imperioli, who plays Christopher – both won Emmys for their work in this episode.
So let’s go, fans: Tell me about your favorite whack job!
