Countdown to the end of ‘Lost’

April
18

There’s just a little more than a month to go before what promises to be an explosive two-hour season finale of “Lost on May 23. And tonight’s Desmond-centric episode starts paving the way towards the end of the season.

So I thought I’d give a small preview of what to expect in coming weeks, since after tonight, there’s only five more episodes to go. (SOB!)

Penny Widmore is back tonight, but whether or not it’s in a flashback (or flash-forward, as can perhaps happen with Desmond) remains to be seen. But based on the trailers, some fans are saying that it sounds like a helicopter is making a landing on the island.

One thing we definitely DO know that a new character, “Naomi”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsha_Thomason, will be introduced tonight. And she’s a parachutist.

“Kristen at E! Online”:http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/index.jsp tells us that, according to exec producer Carlton Cuse, Naomi “does not appear in a flashback, she is not an Other, and she is not one of the survivors of Flight 815.”

Hmm. Does that mean Penny’s finally sent someone to check out the alarm that her scientists found at the end of last season? Or is Naomi part of another unknown branch of pre-crash island dwellers?

Here’s more scoop on tonight from “EW’s Doc Jensen”:http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20035497,00.html.

As for future episodes, here’s the flashback lineup of featured characters:

• April 25: Sun and Jin. Sun finds out that all of the pregnant Others died before giving birth, so she lets Juliet examine her. And we should finally find out who’s her baby’s daddy!

• May 2: ??? “TV Guide”:http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Todays-News/Lost-Shocker-Time/800012791 reports that no one character is part of a traditional flashback sequence but that the flashback device is used. Zoinks! And check this out: Producer Lindelof tells “EW”:http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20034817,00.html that the answer to a MAJOR MYSTERY from Season 1 is revealed. The title of the episode? “The Brig.”

• May 9: It’s all about Ben, baby, yeah!

• May 16: Charlie is the focus, so the obvious question is: Does he kick the bucket?

• May 23: Two whole hours of “Lostâ€?—yay! Probably eight months until we see it again – boo! (Good news, though: ABC will likely launch Season 4 in January 2008, with no re-runs, a la “24.â€?) And “TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello found out”:http://www.tvguide.com/News-Views/Columnists/Ask-Ausiello/default.aspx#01AA that the finale will be a showdown between Jack and Locke.

Plus, Ausiello says there will be at least five – yes FIVE – more deaths before the season concludes.

Place your bets, viewers! Who do you think will be voted off the island?

And, as always, tune in here tomorrow to discuss tonight’s episode.
