Should be some Father’s Day for Alec Baldwin

30 Rock shocked me last night, but not nearly as much as the Alec Baldwin headlines that began cropping up near midnight.
I’ve got a killer recap of “Cleveland,” last night’s episode of the funniest show on TV, in the works. But I’d be burying my lead if I didn’t relay some incredibly unfunny parenting by Baldwin.
So what’s worse? The nasty voicemail message Baldwin left on his daughter Ireland’s cell phone because she didn’t take his call or the decision to leak that ostensibly private message to the media?
I call it a draw.
Baldwin’s camp alleges his ex-wife, actress Kim Basinger, leaked the recording, which you can read about here at LoHud.com.
“You don’t have the brains or the decency as a human being,” Baldwin can be heard saying in this online audio clip. “I don’t give a damn that you’re 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you’re a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn’t care about what you do as far as I’m concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone.”
Sometime today, according to Baldwin’s 2-minute, 11-second tirade, the actor plans to meet with his daughter to let her know “just how I feel about what a rude little pig you really are.”
A spokeswoman for Ireland’s mom and Baldwin’s ex-wife, Kim Basinger, said only that the recording speaks for itself.
Yes, and so does the decision to release it to the entertainment press, apparently with no thought to the scarring damage it might do to a child no doubt already reeling from the verbal excoriation her father delivered.
So what, all’s fair in an ugly, protracted and very public custody battle?
