Boothe: If ‘Deadwood’ conclusion isn’t filmed next month, ‘I don’t think it’ll ever be done’

The “Deadwood” movies might not be filmed at all if production is not underway by June, according to series regular Powers Boothe. (Yes, even “American Idol” fans watch so-called quality television.)
The backstory: Citing declining ratings and escalating costs, HBO chairman Chris Albrecht chose not to order a fourth season of “Deadwood,” catching both the show’s actors and die-hard fans off-guard. “Deadwood” creator David Milch (far left in photo) and Albrecht eventually agreed to film two, two-hour movies to tie up loose ends and give the show a proper send-off.
But now Boothe, who played the nefarious Cy Tolliver on “Deadwood” and plays acting president Noah Daniels on “24” these days, tells TV Guide he is worried that the conclusion to my favorite HBO show might not ever happen.
Check out the full quote after the break.
We’re planning on doing two two-hour movies this summer. They’re talking about [starting production in] June, but I’ll tell you, honestly, as much as I hope it happens, I’ll believe it when I see it. When a cast splits up, it’s hard to bring them back together. … If we don’t do it in June, I don’t think it’ll ever be done, because, look, various people have pilots for other series. I have other commitments, and I know Ian [McShane] has other commitments. That [June] time slot is kind of it. But I think if any show ever deserved at least that much, it’s ‘Deadwood.’
Hear, hear.
“Deadwood” and “24” fans can read more about Boothe’s take on his characters on those shows in the full TV Guide article.
