Jericho’s fate

May
16

It appears, according to Variety, that Jericho will not get a second season, after all. CBS releases its schedule for the 2007-08 season today.

This is bad news. Worse than killing off Johnston Green. Sigh.

BuddyTV.com has a spot-on look at why Jericho got cancelled. In a sentence: CBS screwed up by putting it on such a long hiatus and bringing it back against American Idol. Pbbt.

I’m totally ticked off. Loved this show. It suffered just like Lost did with the big break. Stupid fickle fans.

My Jericho blog buddy, Charlene, and I are totally with you. What CBS did to this show is criminal. It was doing just fine in the ratings before it went on hiatus! This is a textbook example of what NOT to do to a successful show.

I’m so hoping one of the cable networks picks it up. They know how to nurture a good show. The networks give us a show on the Geico cavemen instead. Ugh!

I am done with network TV, I hope you read this CBS. People have took time to watch this show and pay your bills. NO conclusions, nothing. Then you air shows about cavemen and swinging couples. That is real appropiate real family values. Next we have Broke Back MOuntain as a SUnday night Movie.

    Disgusted American

This is the dumbest move CBS has ever made. I certainly won’t be watching their idiotic fall programming.
    Save Jericho!!!!!!!

    Thanks for the coverage, Amy,

And yes I totally agree—CBS went brain dead when cancelling Jericho. They have totally lost me as a viewer. I hope someone like TNT will pick up Jericho and it’s 8 million viewers :)

Jericho is a very good show, different from the usual fare of investigate/prosecute and sitcom. I would love to see another season develop, no matter where. Maybe a transition to a web only show would work?

With the cancellation of Jericho, we have lost not only one of the best shows on the CBS network, but on all of television. I – like many other loyal fans of the show – have been watching repeatedly since the very first episode and have continued to do so all season long. The reason? Jericho is a show that appeals to almost everyone; has an excellent cast; an incredible storyline; and an originality that not many shows on network TV possess anymore.

While I am sure that the decision was made on the numbers, I think it’s key to note that a) Jericho performed very well despite going up against the American Idol juggernaut; b) like almost every other show, a long hiatus hurt its momentum; and c) some of the best shows in the history of TV have needed some time to build up momentum (and very often, take off like wildfire in their 2nd seasons).

I am a 39 year old male, and can tell you that not only I, but my girlfriend, parents, and friends have all become addicted to this show. So much so that this is the first time in my life I have ever felt compelled to write to a network to let them know my feelings. And they are this: if CBS does indeed not bring back Jericho, they will have lost a couple of viewers – FOR LIFE. I have already removed the CBS channel from my programming guide, and will not endorse any of their sponsors whatsoever.

On the last episode, the characters were fighting for their very survival. Count me in as one of the 8 million viewers who are fighting for them.

CBS made a big mistake! I have never fought to save a show in my life until Jericho. This is a first for me. I’m so sick of networks not giving shows a chance. It’s like CBS tried to get the show canned.

What a joke. CBS=laughs by the barrel.

Jericho was the one bright spot they needed to keep. Give it a spot where any show actually has a chance.

Keep fighting to get our show back!!!

    Save Jericho!!

CBS needs to bring back Jericho…... best show they had,

  14. Shane

Surrender Jericho?? NUTS!!!! CBS’s decision to cancel Jericho has left me absolutely confused. It was truly one of the best shows on television last season. It posed questions that had never been asked on television before & incited conversations between viewers that would have never been discussed had it not been for the show. How would Americans deal with such an event if everything that they hold dear in their life was suddenly taken from them. Everything from modern conveniences down to basic necessity is gone. Would you become a better person when faced with adversity or would you rise up against your brother? How can CBS cancel a show that has such deep undertones & is so thought provoking? Only to replace it with more mindless reality television!! The last words uttered on the season finale certainly fit here…...NUTS!!!

CBS will forever regret canceling Jericho if they continue down this path. Their customers want Jericho, and the CUSTOMER is ALWAYS RIGHT!!!

    NUTS!!

  16. Jericho Nut

Kid Nation is a terrible waste of time and money. I can not fathom logic behind replacing Jericho with a bunch of screaming, crying kids who are being exploited for profit. I hear screaming kids all day long and do not consider hearing more of it during my small amount of free time as entertainment. Were CBS execs drunk or high during this meeting??? They must have been to think this was a good idea.
CBS… do the smart thing and BRING BACK JERICHO!

JERICHO FANS ENLIST IN OUR ARMY AT http://WWW.JERICHOLIVES.COM. WE WANT YOU!

    NUTS to CBS!

first of all I must thank you for writing about our efforts to save Jericho…..it is an well written, intresting and entertaining program. The executives at CBS have said it was a difficult decision to cancel Jericho….my opinion is that it was just a plain stupid one!!! How do you take a show with 8 miliion viewers and just toss it. 8 MILLION.. if you take a look I think that there were other shows that stayed on the schedule without that big of a LOYAL fan base. I for one think that CBS is nuts!!! My time has become to valuable to waste watching anything on CBS!!!!!!

  18. Rebecca

The entire Jericho season 1 is on the CBS website for anyone that wants to watch it.
