Saving Jericho

I was out of pocket from Thursday on last week, with the exception of posting the Carnival of Bauer and updating the upfronts. So I was quite (pleasantly) surprised when I checked Remote Access yesterday and saw the number of folks who’d responded to my posting about the bad news that “Jericho” had not been renewed.

It seems that since CBS made it official last week, a whole “Save Jericho” effort has sprung up.

Shows I’ve liked have been canceled before, sure. But none I cared enough, really, to join a “save my show” campaign.

Jericho is different.

Anyone who’s read my posts about Jericho know what I think of the show’s quality. And this was a case where by all rights the show should have been renewed.

It had solid ratings in the fall, when it premiered through its hiatus in November.

Then it disappeared. CBS didn’t really tell us when — or if! — it would come back. It just went away quietly, leaving its fans to wonder about its fate. It’s hard to wage a campaign to save a show that hasn’t even had a full season, and its characters hadn’t been developed enough for us to really fall in love with them.

Then it came back in March. Again, little notice other than a clips show to catch up folks who hadn’t been watching was given. It went up against the 600-lb gorillas of primetime — American Idol and America’s Next Top Model.

Jericho didn’t stand a chance.

Its ratings never regained the fall levels and CBS didn’t do anything to help it survive. Fans watched the season finale without even knowing if it was going to be renewed.

So here we are. Jericho is canceled, CBS has released its schedule of new shows. But folks have been sending nuts to CBS (if you don’t understand the significance of that, you didn’t watch the season finale) and bombarding them with calls.

I urge anyone who cares about the fate of this fantastic show to visit Jericho Lives or Jericho Rally Point and learn how you can help get it back on the air.

These efforts usually don’t make a difference, but once in a while they do.

Let’s hope this is one of those times.

Hey it’s great to see that more are beginning to notice us. We’ve really been doing our best to keep this show alive and the only way for us to reach national media about our campaign is to get small media like you to recognize us. I’m glad that you have supported us so far and feel free to contact me for further updates on our campaign.

The more voices we have the better chance. Keep up the pressure on CBS anyway you can.

Thanks so much for articles and support!

Even people who have yet to become fans of JERICHO should realize this is more than a fight for a show. (all episodes can be seen FREE at CBS.com) It’s time the networks LISTEN to the viewers. CBS’ mismanagement of JERICHO caused the drop in ratings-what else would you expect after a 3-month hiatus?

The top CBS execs stress that cancelling JERICHO was just a ‘business’ decision. When a business fails it’s consumers, they go elsewhere. I will boycott the entire CBS network and their advertisers until they recant their decision to end a quality program. Are they really willing to ignore 8 MILLION unhappy viewers?

While it was gratifying to have our efforts addressed by CBS only a few days into the campaign, their attempt to pacify us was unacceptable. We are in this for the long haul and want an uninterrupted second season of JERICHO. CBS OWES owes the cast, crew and dedicated viewers both that and sincere apologies. They completely underestimated the impact JERICHO made-this show taught us to take a stand-fight the good fight, even when facing impossible odds.
