The summer hiatus gets under way Thursday night at 9 with the first repeat of the season, and it’s a good one. “The Convention” reunites Jim with the Scranton gang at the annual Northeastern Mid-Market Office Supply Convention as Pam tests the single scene.
Here’s a few other items to set the summer mood.
…Office withdrawal is clearly setting in already for one fan who has made it his mission to lobby for a reprise of The Daily Show’s old Even Stevens Steve segments. Specifically, he’d like to see Stephen Colbert cast as Jan Levinson’s ex-hubby, the never-seen “Gould,” next season. “Who could match the magnificent Melora Hardin in both insanity and intimidating glares?” the petition states. “Who could strike fear into the heart of Michael Scott, but also spar with Steve Carell as a comedic equal? Who would dedicated and casual fans love to see in a guest starring role, more than any other?” Ed Helms seems to have worked out, so why not? Sign the petition here. (photo: ComedyCentral.com)
…Speaking of withdrawal, an Office Olympics medal sent us into the summer hiatus, so why shouldn’t Office Olympics help pass the dog days? “Participants will be divided into four teams and awarded points for participation as well as placing in each of the weekly challenges and activities,” an announcement states. “Challenges will take several formats, including graphics, creative writing, and general odds-and-sods (non “creative”!) type activities.” Click here if you’re interested. The deadline is May 31.
…Jenna Fischer is doing well, according to husband, Slither director James Gunn. “She will be okay in time to shoot the new season of the Office, and she just got done shooting Walk Hard,” Gunn writes in a note to a myspace fan site. So, as far as good times for breaking your back, now is it. ” Fischer fractured her back in four places after she fell on a marble staircase during an NBC upfronts party May 14 at Buddakan.
…There are three deleted scenes up at NBC.com. You can also catch a 2-minute recap video of the season finale, read Creed Bratton’s crazy blog or BJ Ryan’s and Greg Daniels’s crazy live blog or check out the last installment of Schrute-Space.
…TVshowsonDVD.com reports that sources claim The Office Season 3 will be released on DVD Sept. 11. That’s almost a year to the day since the Season 2 DVD release, so that sounds about right. The live blog linked above makes a reference that also supports an early September release.
…Ed Helms is a zombie in a three-part short film about discrimination and other challenges facing zombie-Americans. Is this biting satire? Farce? Just plain weird? Who cares? It’s hilarious. Check it out now at Will Ferrell’s video site Funny or Die.
…See sunny Scranton, Pa.! No, really. The Electric City is the place to be this fall for the first official Office Convention, Oct. 26-28. The details remain sparse since the event was announced Saturday during Brian Baumgartner’s and Angela Kinsey’s appearances there Saturday (more on that here), but the buzz his hit the Office blogosphere something fierce. Bookmark TheOfficeConvention.com and check back often for updates.
…John Krasinski has range, and a gun. I could explain, but it wouldn’t help. Just go here.
…There’s something wrong with this guy:

I’m all for Stephen Colbert to be Gould, but why on earth would he be written in? All I want is Karen (and Jim’s relationship) dead. That’s all I ask.
That conspiracy guy hurts my soul.
