More whack-a-doodles tonight on ‘Dance’

Memorial Day marked the unofficial start of summer. But for me, the season started last week with the premiere of my favorite warm-weather show, FOX’s ““So You Think You Can Dance.â€?”:http://fox.com/dance/
I’ve already blogged here about my secret love of “Dance, probably because watching it brings back memories of when I was captain of my high school Sports Night dance team. (Go ahead and laugh. My husband, friends and co-workers do. But surprisingly, this did not mean I was a nerd: I went to an all-girls Catholic school, they apparently were far more forgiving…)
Anyway, the “Dance competition is just getting started, with the standard train-wreck auditions from Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta continuing tonight (a two-hour program starting at 8 p.m.) and tomorrow (9 p.m.).
Strangely, delusional dancers don’t hold any appeal for me, unlike the try-outs for “American Idol. On “Idol, I’ll admit that I get a kick figuring out if the out-of-tune are actually nuts enough to think they can sing – or just grabbing their 15 seconds of fame.
But for some reason, I’m impatient with the audition process for “Dance. So I’m glad that the Las Vegas “call-backs will air June 6, with the top 20 finalists announced the following night.
Because I really want to see if judge Nigel Lythgoe—who is, incidentally, a producer on “Idolâ€?—keeps his promise not to be so mean this season. (Please. The dude’s no Simon Cowell.)
And I want to hear judge Mary Murphy’s loony laugh, which she does about every 30 seconds. She’s meant to be Paula Abdul’s wacky counterpart on this show, but poor Paula’s nonsensical ramblings just seem to be the result of too much self-medication.
Whereas Murphy appears to be totally koo-koo bird crazy. Love it!
Plus, I’m digging host “Cat Deeley.”:http://imdb.com/name/nm0214299/
The British chippie has a quasi-quirky fashion sense and a easygoing personality. I mean, I give the girl props for talking to David Kenneth “Sex Soller – the horrifyingly bad dancer who also auditioned last season – as if he actually was from this planet.
Oh yeah, and there’s been some great dancing so far, too. There was an awesome ballroom couple, that amazing tattooed girl who’s already had two hip surgeries and the sexy sister of Season 2 finalist Stanislav Savich. All made it straight through to Vegas.
Who’ll join them?
Tune in tonight to see, and touch base here tomorrow to tell everyone about your favorites (and to make fun of those who had two left feet).
