A ‘Rock’y hiatus for 30 Rock so far

June

It’s been a few days since I’ve posted. And if only out of fairness to Tracy Morgan, I’m glad I waited.

tracy.jpgYou see, I came across a blurb at TVGuide.com rehashing a report in The New York Post that Morgan was spotted two weeks ago at Rum Jungle in Las Vegas. The Post cited a witness who claimed Morgan was “doing shots of vodka, eventually drinking straight from the bottle and partying into the wee hours shirtless.”

The newspaper has apparently retracted the report, however, after speaking to Morgan’s lawyer, who put a rep for the company that makes Morgan’s alcohol-monitoring bracelet on the phone. The rep confirmed Morgan’s earlier claim that he only drank Red Bull that night. (photo: NBC.com)

Morgan lost the benefit of the doubt with his second of two drunk driving convictions and an accusation of groping a Florida DJ last month. But the guy doesn’t need fabricated reports of bad behavior to add to his self-inflicted woes.

Morgan talks frankly about his recent problems here.

30 Rock writer, executive producer and star Tina Fey has had her hands full already with her other co-star’s wacky headline-grabbing behavior.

Alec Baldwin’s now-infamous voice-mail tirade to his 11-year-old daughter and subsequent statements of wanting to quit the show tainted what should have been a time of celebration for all connected with the conclusion of the Rock’s freshman season.

Hailed by critics and backed by NBC for a second season, Fey’s creation deserves better than the harsh light to which Morgan and Baldwin have subjected it.

Turns out, most of Baldwin-gate went down while Fey was on vacation. She told the Chicago Tribune last week she missed Baldwin’s flame-fanning appearance on The View. She later spoke to him, confirmed his desire to return to the show and said she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“No one’s going to make him do it under duress, she told Tribune TV blogger Maureen Ryan.

Speaking from the set of her upcoming film, Baby Mama, Fey had nothing but praise for Baldwin.

“He elevates the show. He’s a brilliant actor, she said. “I’ve tried to learn from [him], even as I make this movie. Amy (co-star and fellow SNL alum Amy Poehler) and I, because we came from Second City, we’re like, ‘I guess we’re not supposed to yell, in the movie, right? The audience can hear us even if we don’t yell?’
