“Grey’s Anatomy” Sans Washington

Now that Isaiah Washington won’t be returning to Seattle Grace (and whatev regarding why he won’t be returning), what will change about “Grey’s Anatomy”? Not much, I dare say. Though Washington and his Dr. Preston Burke are excellent, it’s a strong ensemble cast that will survive without him. Yes, there are some ensemble shows that would lose its spark without a certain character—for example, Ted Danson’s Sam Malone on “Cheers”—but “Grey’s” isn’t one of the them. In fact, the show is going so gangbusters that it could even get along well without yummy McDreamy (Dr. Shepherd) or the annoying McWhiny/Wimpy (Meredith Grey).
And there could be some advantages to Washington’s departure. Just think of all the beaus Cristina is now free to have! Cristina + romance = dysfunctional fun for all. And who knows? The producers may decide to not replace Washington, for financial (one fewer high salary to dole out in these lean times) and/or other reasons.
How do you think “Grey’s” upcoming season will fare without Isaiah Washington/Dr. Burke?
