Perhaps Katharine McPhee should have won Season 5 of “American Idol” over Taylor Hicks for objective reasons, including vocal range, marketability and arguably the best rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” the show’s ever seen.
But with McPhee posing in very little on the cover of Stuff magazine’s August edition, her beauty alone could make many men forget all about “Soul Patrol” (assuming they knew what it was in the first place). The mag hits newsstands Tuesday.
Maybe I’m just bitter Hicks didn’t show up last month to a charity golf outing in Mamaroneck, where I planned to ask the former champ a few fun questions for Suburbarazzi. Or maybe it’s as simple as “Yeah, McPhee’s hot.”
Either way, I don’t much care about legitimizing my feelings rationally. Pretty girls can have that effect on guys.

Thanks for the positive comments about Katharine. Damn right she's hot. Most men have no interest in being part of the Soul Patrol. This organization is composed of 40+ year old women who for whatever reason think Taylor Hicks is sexy. Katharine is perfect in the pages of Stuff magazine. That last comment has me cracking up. Its correct about Kat being HOT!! but she also has a fantastic voice. Her first single was probably the weakest single on the album and it made top 25. Her new one called Love Story is already doing a lot better and I expect her other 2 singles she will release to be even better. The girl can flat do anything she wants to do. She will be working on her first movie later this month also. She could end up being the biggest and best thing to ever come out of American Idol. Oh and did I mention she is HOT!!!!!!!!!
Love Story is very weak. It's doing absolutley nothing on the charts—just like her CD, which isn't even gold after five months. At this rate, there won't be another single or another CD. She already owes thousands of dollars for her CD, producers and video shoots. She always said if her CD didn't do well, sex would be the next thing—and she's proving it by her distastely poses and drunken behavior in Las Vegas.
I dont agree at all the right person WON american idol and if anything she should of came in 4th. Yes shes pretty but theres a lot of pretty girls out there shes nothing special.If her voice was soo great why were her sales so dang low and shes used more for her looks and not her voice. Eventually people will get tired of her crap she dishes out shes always been very selfish and self asorbed. I think thats why her sales are low I mean she basically bombed in sales and Love story will bomb also . Shes hardley getting any spins…
Taylor isn't the only one that didn't show up for the golf outing. I'm sure he notified the people in charge of it that he wouldn't be available. He had a very tight week of performances then, and I'm sure his schedule didn't have enough free time to get from Cape Cod to Iowa in the allotted time.
Yes, Kat may be in a movie, but her boyfriend is one of the producers. As far as the other movie, I'm sure Daddy McMee had something to do with it. Her first video shows that she can't act and desperately needs to go to acting school. Her photo shoots are all that ugly mouth open smile, and the kissing lips. Guess she didn't get enought of chin kissing.
Brian, look at all these pathetic Soul Patrol'ers coming to Taylor's defense. I would just like to warn you, they do it to every blog that mentions Taylor, or even ones just about Kat with the intention of making her look bad because they're pissed their idol gets zero exposure and zero radio play. It's funny how they know every little detail and basically Kat's whole life; that's how obsess the Soul Patrol'ers are about Kat. Lets see, Kat has a new music video coming out, yet another magazine cover, two confirmed movie roles with more auditions being booked, and a hot new single which, as expected, is leaving Taylor's single in the dust. Katharine McPhee is more successful than Taylor what's his face, and that's what irks these elderly women the most, thus them invading every Kat blog and attempting to degrade her. It's actually quite amusing to watch. The SP'ers act as if it's our fault that they have to follow a failure. I honestly feel sorry for them.
As predicted, here are the soul patrol dried up old hags, though there might be a few fans of that bald guy with the eye makeup or the other one who looks like a cross between a werewolf and a leprechaun. These people are really twisted, they know more about Katharine than her fans do and they spend more time stalking her on the internet and posting their nasty little comments than they do on their own idols. I suppose because Katharine is in the news about 5 times a week on average while their guys are never to be heard of anywhere.

Her album will be gold very soon.
The second single has only just been released. She will be promoting it starting tomorrow when the video comes out. Regardless, a first album is pretty much a throwaway, I'm really looking forward to the second one where she really gets a chance to make something special.
She doesn't owe anyone anything for videos or production. Besides which she has a 2.5 million dollar 2 year contract with Sexy Hair. She doesn't need her father's money.
You know hags, I'm not a fan of Taylor or Elliot or Chris so I spend 0 time on their forums and post 0 nasty comments to whatever few appearances they might make in blogs.
If you look at you behaviour you should realize how mentally ill you really are. You must be in such torment seeing Katharine's star continue to rise while deep down you know your idols will forgotten in a couple of years.
You are like the bitter queen/step mother/step sisters in all the fairy tales – forever angry at the beautiful young girl because she already has 100 times more than you ever will.

Oh – and I forgot to mention – Katharine's personality. By all accounts she is the nicest, sweetest, most down to earth person you could ever hope to meet. Everyone is charmed and enchanted by her. It is another delusion of the jealous and dried up old hags that she is anything else. This is just more malevolence akin to girls in high school calling the pretty cheerleader who has everything going for her "stuck up" or "full of herself". It is just more proof of your jealousy.

Yes, Katharine should have won Idol. She has one of the most beautiful voices ever on the show. She has shown everyone since the show ended that she didn't have to win to be a success. Daddy had nothing to do with it, other than giving her the face of an angel, and a great personality and sense of humor. She is a photographer's dream and has a voice most people can only think about. Keep on hating, haters. It's not going to stop her. Nothing will. She's only going to get better.
Kayla: It's not the first time I've been mistaken for a Brian, specifically Remote Access' lovely and talented Brian Howard. It's high praise.
As for the Hicks-McPhee dispute, it's enjoyable to sit back and watch. I might have to blog sometime in the near future about the assets and liabilities of every Idol champ and runner-up since the show began.

FYI – Kat's CD Love Story was released before Taylor's Heaven Knows, which was several months ago, and Love Story is bombing. Her album has beenout since the end of January and still isn't gold. Elliott and Bucky's album will pass her very shortly. She's been promoting that album since it came out, and still it does nothing. At this rate, there won't be a second album.
I wouldn't say Katharine is more successful than Taylor. Heck, she's not even more successful than Elliott, Chris, Bucky, or Kellie. The only thing she's know for is her juvenile interviews, being late for a Washington radio show, and her McTatas and crotch shots.
She owes plenty for her videos and productions. They're not free. Kelly's latest video cost $6000, and Kelly has to pay 1/2 of that. I'm sure Kat has to do the same.

Yeah, that "marketability" thing sure worked out well for Katharine, seeing as how Taylor Hicks has sold twice as many albums as she has.
Kat's a hottie, and good for her for posing on the cover of Stuff (even though it's exactly what she said she wouldn't do unless her career hit the skids, but we can gloss over that small tidbit for a moment.) She seems very happy with where she is right now in her career, and even if I think she seems like kind of a bitch, hey, more power to her for getting everything she wants in life.
It does amaze me, though, that it's primarily men who criticize Taylor Hicks for not being sexy. I'm 25 years old, female, attractive, in good shape, educated, and I think he's absolutely gorgeous. Funny how any woman who criticizes Katharine is labeled as automatically being jealous or threatened, but men get free reign to put Taylor Hicks down as unattractive and untalented. Katharine has quite a bit going for her at the moment. A new single, a new music video to premiere, two more singles following this, three performances lined up for The Early Show, Regis & Kelly, and Jay Leno, a 6th magazine cover, a part in a big studio movie, and the starring role in an Indie film.
Ask me what Taylor's doing right now, and I couldn't tell you because I don't care. Because I'm not a fan of his. Because I don't waste my life away trying to bring down the career of a beautiful, compassionate, and charitable young girl, who is nothing but sweet and genuine and cordial to everyone she comes in contact with.

You've got it right about my blog post, which was somewhat meant to be tongue-in-cheek: Pretty Woman Barely Clad + Me = Me, Losing Most Rational Forms of Argument.
Here's what I'll even admit: At the time of the Season 5, I believe I was rooting for Hicks because no one at that point of the show's history of the show appeared to be having more fun that he was.
That said, with some 20/20 hindsight, I prefer McPhee. I never was a fan of "Do I Make You Proud?" (although every "Idol" champ's signature song bores me: including Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This.")—but I like McPhee's "Over It" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," which she "made her own" in true Randy Jackson fashion. It's just a personal preference. I don't dislike Hicks.
I covered "American Idol" all year for Season 6, and I've never seen such a divisive, nasty debate on this blog. It's kind of fun, kind of scary and downright bizarre to an extent.
There's room for both McPhee and Hicks, people!

Taylor Hicks sucked! He is horrible and an average vocalist. He is a NO hit wonder. His first single flopped, and his 2nd single is flopping even worse if thats possible. Nobody even knows who Taylor Hicks is anymore, he is very forgettable and the only reason he won was the following two reasons.
1 – That Taylor Hicks guy is crazy! He makes me laugh, I'll vote for him.
2 – Katharine McPhee is a bitch, I hope she doesn't win so I'll vote for Taylor to make sure she doesn't win.
Katharine's fanbase was way bigger than Taylors, Katharine just had lots of people voting against her.
You know, I often wonder if I was born with more brain cells than most because what I see on here is just so sad.
I actually love all of the Idols mentioned here for totally different reasons. Katharine, Taylor and Chris have each produced fantastic CD's and I alternate playing them depending what mood I am in. I look at the posts bashing Katharine and in the same breath giving props to Taylor and I can see what many of you can't…...these are NOT people from the Soul Patrol. I talk to people on all three American Idol boards (thats Katharine Taylor and Chris) and I would recognise their style of writing. Then I look at the posts bashing Taylor and giving props to Katharine and again I can see very few real Katharine fans. I'm not sure why Chris was brought into this at all, I'm just waiting for the next sad person to come along with an excuse to bash him. This blog was started to cause controversy and soon it will become a place for all the bashers and haters to spit venom at each other. If you actually know of the fans belonging to each of these Idols you will find that Katharine, Chris and Taylor each have fans in their Teens,20's, 30's, 40's 50's 60's….need I go on?
I am seeing the same uneducated souls on here that were writing on another blog bashing Chris and Taylor and yet another one bashing Taylor and Chris…most of these people are Not real fans….just ignorant and somewhat stupid people with a passion for hurting. There is a lot of undiscovered talent out there that deserves our attention and support rather than wasting our time in blogs ridiculing or defending personalities we like or dislike. These people are just trying to start careers they've all worked very hard for. Support your favorites – attend their concerts, encourage radio play and buy their albums/singles, etc. My hope is each ultimately achieve success in their individual careers.

I don't bother to read posts or message boards about Taylor, Chris, or Elliott. I never go looking for information about them.
Initially I liked all four (and more) but Katharine's voice was special to me. I love her range and voice quality.
The only information I find about the three guys comes when I read about Kat! From things their fans have said on Kat threads . . .
1) I didn't realize Taylor fans didn't like Kat (for a long time.) After all, he won?? They dislike Kat because she was Taylor's competition? This makes no sense to me.
2) Chris's fan base blamed Kat directly for him not winning Idol 5. Why? All she did was sing and be his friend. They are friends you know!
3) Elliott's fan base seems to hit the hardest. At least they identify themselves the most. Again, they blame Kat for his loss. They seem quite dedicated to hunting up Kat fans and ranting against Kat.
There are others!! The people that just like to stir up trouble by setting the different fan bases against each other. There were people claiming to be Kat fans that were being so outrageous in their praise that they simply upset the other fan bases. Not real fans. Kat knows you guys don't like her. I suspect she's OVER IT by now! LOL!
It's been an interesting journey. Many people have a really angry and hateful side!
Such anger and hateful behavior just isn't healthy!

As a fan of Kat's voice, I'm not going to get upset at the number of CDS she sells or doesn't sell. I'll leave it up to her detractors to keep score!
However, I know the sales matter to her and many of her fans. The sales are directly connected to her longevity. I'm still hoping for a jazz album so I wish her MANY sales!

Katharine certainly has an above average voice. And she also could be considered attractive—as is Kellie Pickler. But only Chris Daughtry, Paris Bennett, and Elliott Yamin have what you might consider exceptional talent or voices.
Katharine's team also made the mistake of recreating her and aiming low on the R&B totum pole, instead of staying more true to what audiences were accustomed. A few of Kat's songs were actually generic rejects already making the rounds for years before landing on her project.
Not to mention, Katharine's entire CD is unnaturally weighted down with a slathering overproduction and autotune. It's more about imagine and style over substance. This is a shame being as Katharine can actually sing. Too bad she'll likely never get a second chance to redeem herself, or at least not on a major label. One day Katharine just won't appear on RCA's site any longer with nary a mention. The record industry is a very cold and shady business.

A modern jazz or rhythm and blues album would have been nice. This seems to be closer to Katharine's heart, according to the songs she chose on her season. I personally would rather fail on my own terms than succeed on someone else's. Instead we get this generic robotic Making the Band slop, songs that will never find inclusion on any prestigious songbook.
Spin it any way you like. Katharine's CD, no matter how aggressively it's marketed, simply isn't selling to current standards because it sucks. She could be the combination of Christy Brinkley and Jessica Alba, and it would still suck, hard.

Kat needs to become successful overseas because Americans, her own people, aren't buying her act. There are a lot of pretty girls that can sing but they need IT. Something else, a likeability that Kat doesn't have. And she's in Adam Sandler's movie and he isn't exactly known for producing Oscar winners. Look, Kat is a celebrity meaning some people won't like her and Kat's fans need to accept that.
