From other Office pens

A blog telling you to read other blogs? Well, yeah, but just this once.
Part II of OfficeTally’s interview with Office writer Mike Schur is up (and I even spelled his name right on the first try this time). Mike dishes in some more detail about the writing process and just how mean a boss fellow writer Mindy “Kelly Kapoor” Kaling is.
This part in particular caught my eye because Schur speaks directly to a lot of recurring questions I had as Season 3 plodded along in strange new directions.
Last year, coming back from the big kiss in Casino Night, we knew Jim would be in Stamford for 6-8 episodes, the branches would merge, and by the time they did, Jim would have a girlfriend. We also knew that Pam would get upset and backslide into Roy’s arms, that it would be a disaster, they’d break up, and that the whole second part of the season would be from Pam’s point of view as she summoned the courage to tell Jim how she felt. Season Two was from Jim’s point of view, and Season Three was from Pam’s.

Meanwhile, The Televisionary—“an LA-based television development and acquisitions exec who watches way too much television for his own good”—offers his wish list for Season 4, and I don’t think I differ with him on a single item.
In particular, I’m right there with him regarding the future for Jim and Pam.
I’m hoping that, having given the fans what they wanted, these two retreat into the background a little and just, you know, date. No more sturm und drang or sappy NBC promos promising a reunion or their first time together. Blech. No, I want these two to date and The Office to remain true to what it set out to be: a satirical look at office workers. So let’s just let these two kids go out a few times and see if they click and how they negotiate dating and working together.
Check out the rest of his wish list here.
