CBS's fall premieres

July
19

CBS yesterday announced its fall premiere dates. Yeah, yeah, just got around to posting it today. Shoot me.

Anyhow, here ’tis:

Wednesday, Sept. 19

8 p.m.: Kid Nation

Thursday, Sept. 20

8 p.m.: Survivor: China

Sunday, Sept. 23

7 p.m.: 60 Minutes (wow! its 40th season)
9 p.m.: Cold Case
10 p.m.: Shark

Monday, Sept. 24

8 p.m.: How I Met Your Mother
8:30 p.m.: The Big Bang Theory
9 p.m.: Two and a Half Men
9:30 p.m.: Rules of Engagement
10 p.m.: CSI: Miami

Tuesday, Sept. 25

8 p.m.: NCIS
9 p.m.: The Unit
10 p.m.: Cane

Wednesday, Sept. 26

9 p.m.: Criminal Minds
10 p.m.: CSI: NY

Thursday, Sept. 27

9 p.m.: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
10 p.m.: Without a Trace

Friday, Sept. 28

8 p.m.: Ghost Whisperer
9 p.m.: Moonlight
10 p.m.: Numb3rs

Saturday, Sept. 29

8 p.m. “Crimetime Saturday” — no explanation as to exactly what this, but MediaWeek reported that it was two hours of drama series repeats. So this wouldn’t be a premiere so much as a re-premiere.
10 p.m.: 48 Hours Mystery

Thursday, Oct. 18

10 p.m.: Viva Laughlin — though this is being promoted as just a “special preview.” It moves to its regular time slot, 8 p.m. Sundays, on Oct. 21 “to take advantage of a two-week window in the schedule without football overruns.”

Now, then, let’s take bets on what’s going off the air first; Jericho’s slated to jump in as the first “mid-season” replacement. I’m voting for Viva Laughlin, for a variety of reasons:

1) Jericho’s an hour, so neither of the new half-hour shows fits the bill (unless both went off the air at the same time; unlikely, especially as The New Adventures of Old Christine, for one, is in the mix as a midseason replacement.)
2) Viva Laughlin is a musical drama. I have two words for you: Cop Rock.

Uh-uh! Shush. Zzzt! Cop Rock.

Cop. Rock.

I will not watch any new CBS shows. They look awful. I do love Cold Case & Shark. I'm with you on Laughlin. Get out of the way & let's watch Jericho.
    Thanks Amy.

ericho, the story of small town survival after the largest attack on the America. After 24 nuclear bombs are detonated across the country, Jericho, Kansas is left virtually untouched, but with the breakdown of all shipping, commerce and trading this small town becomes a target for its salt mine and many farms… The cast is well put together, with tales of love, loss, desperation and triumph all tied around the sudden change that came with the attacks. But I also found Jericho offers something no other show does…. real hope. Hope that no matter what life may throw at us, we can prevail. I’ve seen the aftermaths of riots, chaos in the midst of the California fires, the devastation of Katrina and of course 9-11. People were sitting back waiting for someone else to rescue them. Where has our innate sense of survival gone? Has it been completely driven out by this “societyâ€?? I feel like this show reinstituted a lot of my own sense of survival, because we honestly don’t know what terrorists are planning right now. How will people survive if FEMA is not coming? How will people accomplish anything if they don’t have some politician to send a letter to? How will people defend themselves if the military and police are no more? We have been dulled by this civilization. But what does history show us… there are times of “ false orderâ€? followed by devastating wars, then the “false orderâ€? is partially restored, and then collapses again. But what happens in the interim? Well now watching this show people have an idea on how to survive, even if it is on a primetime level. Wind turbines, iodine, and nuclear fallout, are just some of the situations that are elaborated on in the first few episodes. Most people these days learn more from watching TV than any other source, so why not learn something necessary. So when you’re done watching the news, don’t slip back into your false sense of security with other shows, watch Jericho on CBS, and stay alert. In today’s world, it is the show to watch.
