More Jericho mea culpa — and scoopage

Skeet Ulrich, Lennie James, Ashley Scott and Carol Barbee (she’s the producer/creator) of our beloved Jericho chatted up the seven-ep second season at the television critics press tour this week and we have some juicy details, courtesy of BuddyTV and Michael Ausiello.
But first off, CBS exec Nina Tassler is quoted by TV Squad as promising that even though Jericho is set for only seven new episodes,
We’re going to give it a lot of promotion.
That would be the opposite of what happened during the show’s long hiatus in the middle of the first season. Which Tassler admitted was likely the prime reason ratings dropped off, which in turn was why the network initially didn’t pick up the show for a second season.
Apparently, the cast was “despondent” when they found out the show was canceled. No one expected the show to be saved (go fans!). And all those peanuts? At least some (one-pound bags were on each chair, alnog with “Save Jericho” T-shirts) were given out to reporters at this morning’s TV critics panel for the show. (Lenny James  Hawkins  said the fan campaign was “incredibly humbling … and gratifying.”)
The second season action would have eventually moved to New York City if there’d been a full season pickup, by the way. Oh, and they’d always planned to kill off Major Dad, so Jake would truly step up and lead.
So anyway, via BuddyTV and Ausiello, I have some mild spoilers. If you don’t want any advance info, stop reading. If you keep reading, don’t come complaining to me.
First off, all the Season 1 cliffhangers will be resolved in the season premiere.
Wow. That’s pretty amazing. The battle with New Bern, the new “American” flag, the soldiers coming to Jericho, the bad guy who used to be Hawkins’ boss being behind the bombs, Jake’s background with Ravenwood. That’s a lot to wrap up. But I’m kind of glad, because there’s so much else that can be explored.
And explored it shall be. More from BuddyTV:
The second episode will jump ahead in time to focus on the new story: Hawkins and Jake’s mission to save the world from destruction.
From Carol Barbee, via Ausiello:
Heather comes back to town to find Jake and Emily together. And she gets a possible new love interest. But there’s still a pull between her and Jake that ends up working into the story.
The seven episodes will be self-contained and any new plot points brought up will be resolved by the end of the arc. But everyone involved with Jericho says that if CBS ups the episode order, they can provide more.
Stay tuned to Remote Access this weekend, for our Heart of Winter recap by guest blogger Judi Massey.

Great article as always. Thank you.
Another great article, thanks : )
Thanks for all the information, Amy—on the ball, as always. It’s great knowing the cast is so excited about being back together and what the future episodes hold.
Great artivle but Carol Barbee is not one of the creators. She is the show runner.
You’re right, JAS. I keep forgetting she’s not one of the creators, though she’s the executive producer/head writer. She’s just been such an integral part of Jericho that I forget she wasn’t actually one of the creators. Thanks.
