Office gossip doesn’t go on vacation

July
30

Sheesh! Go away for a few days and you miss a lot, Office-wise. Even in the dead of summer, news is dropping.

In my defense, though, I was in Boston. Actually, we stayed in Newton, Mass., a stone’s throw from Beantown and the birthplace of John Krasinski and BJ Novak. See, there’s always an Office angle.

But while I was cracking lobster claws and riding a Duck Boat on the Charles River, the Season 4 rumor mill was in full swing.

Co-show runner Kent Zbornak told Kristen Veitch’s intern “there will be new couplings”, which could irk me if it portends a Friends-like everyone-gets-with-everyone else pattern. Maybe he just meant Jim and Pam (whom he addresses in the quote pasted below). Or Ryan and Jan. It also sounds like we’ll be seeing plenty of stretch pants-Jan. And he re-confirmed plans for four hour-long episodes to open the season

Fellow co-show runner Greg Daniels confirmed to IGN that we haven’t seen the last of Karen Filippelli. She’ll be around for a few episodes, anyway. Roy takes a step back, too, which isn’t surprising but disappointing if only because David Denman who plays the role is a good actor and a seemingly decent guy. What’s more, though, talks have been broached with Carol Burnett about a guest spot, which I rooted for here.

But Greg, was it a date? He doesn’t say yes or no, but you probably won’t like the answer.

Meanwhile, The TV Addict caught up with Ed Helms, who shared this awkward anecdote:

“This is my favorite story actually. I was at a bar in Brooklyn, NY. It was St. Patty’s Day. I was just hanging out with some friends. This little group of guys right behind me at the bar start chanting “Stamford, CT! Stamford, CT!â€? which was a cheer that I did in the Branch Closing episode. I turn around, I thought they were doing it because I was standing there. I turned around and said “Hey guys, that’s pretty coolâ€? and they looked at me like I had grown a second head. They had no idea who I was.”

Tomorrow, Rainn Wilson chats with TheEnvelope.com’s Tom O’Neil, The LA Times TV blogger with all the great Emmy scoop. Next up, Jenna Fischer.
