Reality check: Fischer, Gunn reveal split on MySpace

I avoid dipping into tabloid waters when it comes to this blog. Being a fan means not having to acknowledge that stars have real lives if I so choose, right? Sure, Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan make it a challenge sometimes, but for the most part I have far more interest in all things Liz Lemon than in the vagaries of Tina Fey’s off-screen existence.
That said, the dual MySpace messages posted this afternoon by Jenna Fischer, who plays Pam on The Office, and her husband, writer/director James Gunn, seem worth noting here. In identical blog posts here and here, the married couple of six years announce their separation.
The news comes as a shock to fans who’ve grown accustomed to their frequent commentary about their travels, shared interests and professional exploits. The two share the screen in Fischer’s 2004 directorial debut Lollilove, and Fischer had a bit part in Gunn’s horror hit Slither last year.
The way they’re breaking this news to their loyal fans strikes me as classy and deserving of respect.
