If these shows are geeky, pass me the pocket protector

Now they’ve done it.
PC Magazine had to go and name its top 10 favorite geeky TV shows. There’s plenty to choose from this season, as Remote Accessory Georgette Gouveia pointed out a couple weeks ago.
Some might take offense at the thought that the shows they love are on this list, but I suspect most will fully embrace the geekiness that is them.
First, the list:
1. The Big Bang Theory
2. Doctor Who (pictured at right)
3. Heroes
4. 24
5. The IT Crowd
6. Chuck
7. Bones
8. Battlestar Galactica (pictured at top)
9. Numb3rs
10. Mythbusters
My thoughts after the jump.
OK, I have to admit that my first thought on reading the list was “24? Wha?”
But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense.
While Jack Bauer is the show’s heart and the brawn, Chloe O’Brian (pictured, at right) has shown herself to be the soul and brain. Who does Jack turn to every single time he needs something? She can track a satellite, run a license plate and Taser a drunk all at the same time, and she even handled a gun pretty well.
Plus, Jack has every single geek gadget known to mankind, plus a whole bunch that haven’t been invented yet. (Does a PDA actually exist that can do all the things that Jack’s does?)
“The IT Crowd” is a British show, and NBC was developing a midseason replacement show spun off it, though it’s unclear if it’ll air.
Chuck, Heroes, The Big Bang Theory, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica  all no-brainers for the list (all for varying reasons). If you don’t know why they’re on there, go back to sleep now. Sorry for waking you up.
Bones and Numb3rs, I’ve never watched. To me, they’re police procedural clones, though I’ve heard they’re better than the average CSI & Order. Or, at least, more interesting.
Then there’s MythBusters, which I might actually put on my DVR. On the Discovery Channel, it’s a couple of guys who basically debunk (or prove) all the wacky myths and urban legends out there  such as if you talk on your cell phone while pumping gas, will you blow up? You know, news you can use.
Oh, and here’s the eight geeky shows PC Magazine misses:
1. The Six Million Dollar Man (well, his wife  the Bionic Woman, natch  has been resurrected this season, though she’s no longer married to him, it appears)
2. Quantum Leap (but you can check out Journeyman for an updated, less cheesy look at the accidental time travel genre)
3. The X-Files
4. Babylon 5
5. Buffy (see No. 6)
6. Angel (David Boreanaz is on Bones, though, so you’re good)
7. Firefly (check out Jayne, known in real life as Adam Baldwin, as a CIA agent on Chuck  pictured at left)
8. Veronica Mars (though Kristen Bell is now a recurring character on Heroes!)
