Could Jericho lose Mama Green?

October

NOTE: This entry originally was posted Oct. 15 on our temporary site.

One of Jericho’s most beloved, Green family matriarch Gail Green, may meet the same fate as her even more beloved husband, former Mayor Johnston Green.

So says SyFy Portal.

The Portal says Pamela Reed, the actress who plays Gail Green, has not been offered a contract renewal.

Quoted on Filmstew.com, Reed said this weekend at the third L.A. Femme Film Festival:

The average age of actors on that show is under 40, and those of us over 40 are gone.

We all know this is part of what’s wrong with Hollywood. But Jericho fans spoke loudly and even protested the killing off of Johnston, though we accepted it, as it did advance the story in significant—though sad—ways.

But to get rid of Gail, too? There’s no reason. I can’t imagine any way that eliminating her character would advance the story. Jake and Eric have already grown up tremendously—even before their dad died. At least Johnston’s death had a purpose. Jake was now absolutely in charge of the town’s defense. Without his dad there, everyone would look to him.

CBS has been handling Jericho’s return rather poorly—pre-empted re-runs this summer (like the network didn’t know when certain football games were going to be aired!); no off-season promotion; no promises as to when the show might return; virtually no publicity from the network itself as to the DVD release of Season 1.

It’s almost as if the network wants Jericho to fail again. Not that it really failed in the first place.

    HI Amy,
I feel the way that you do. I really dont think Jericho is going to survive a few more episodes at CBS, I really think that they WANT IT TO FAIL. No promotions at all, and I have not seen one thing about the release of the DVD. I wish another station would pick it up. I think it would do much better.
