‘Lost’ roundup

When we last left our Losties on the island five long months ago—sob!—it seemed that rescue was imminent.
We know from Charlie’s final words that the rescue ship connected to Naomi isn’t Penny’s boat.
But despite Locke’s interference, Jack still got a call through on that satellite phone and reached a guy named Minkowski.
And looks like we’ll actually see Minkowski in the upcoming episodes, because it was recently announced that actor-director-producer Fisher Stevens landed the part.
As this story notes, Lost-philes have already researched the Minkowski name, and he’s now been added to the list of characters named for scientists or philosophers (along with Locke, Rousseau, Desmond Hume, etc.).
The show’s fanatics have tied this character to German mathematician Hermann Minkowski who—wouldn’t you know—had a whole “time-exists-as-a-fourth-dimension” theory. Maybe he’ll be the one who gets to explain Desmond’s “flashes.”
In other news, here’s how you can tell just how cool “Lost” really is. Director Kevin Smith—who was supposed to be promoting his new TV show, “Reaper,” to Entertainment Weekly—totally got off on a “Lost” tangent.
Seems that the rotund writer/director of “Clerks” is a huge, huge, HUGE fan. Read the story for yourself to see his potty-mouthed explanation of why last season’s finale was brilliant.
And lastly, check out this story that appeared in the Los Angeles Times earlier this week.
It talks about how lots of TV shows—especially serialized shows like “Lost” and “Heroes”—are trying to shoot as many episodes as possible before a possible writers’ strike kicks in.
Possibly interrupting the show in mid-season—again? Not good: Remember the horror of last year’s three month break between those fall episodes and spring conclusion?
Here’s hoping that both sides can work things out—for the sanity of all “Lost” fans!
(UPDATE! More casting news: Just heard via TV Guide’s Ausiello Report that Andrea Roth—who plays Denis Leary’s tormented wife on “Rescue Me”—will be joining the cast.
