Curb Your Enthusiasm: Larry's life is not a No-Fly Zone

I’ve been there, on the phone with the Mrs., listening dutifuly but feeling the pull of my surroundings. The heart is willing, to twist a phrase, but the attention span is weak.
In my defense, though, my wife has never called me from an airliner caught in a storm. In matters of life and death, my focus is true. And that is reason #458 why HBO will never air an original comedy series about my daily life.

The funny thing—OK, one of several funny things—is that the basic premise of Sunday’s edition of Curb Your Enthusiasm, “The Tivo Guy”, closely paralleled that of star/creator Larry David, ever moreso than usual, that is.
The scene is Larry’s living room, and the Tivo repairman arrives after several crossed-up appointment times. When the phone rings and it’s Cheryl from the plane, Larry is consumed by getting his signal fixed and clearly isn’t paying attention to Cheryl. The reception wasn’t clear, though, and there was a lot of noise on her end. So as she relayed her heartfelt thoughts as she faced her potential final moments, Larry’s chatting with the Tivo guy and finally tells her to call back in 10 minutes.
Well that’s all it takes to thrust a woman into the arms of the windowless underwear maker to her right. She returns home to announce she’s leaving.
Back in real life, David separated from his wife of 14 years, Laurie David, citing irreconcilable differences.
As the AP reports, David never confronted the question directly of whether the amicable split would show up on Curb, but he didn’t rule it out either.
The split triggers a rift among the fictional Davids’ friends, who choose sides, mainly Cheryl’s. But Larry’s going to be alright. He hooks up with Zena the Warrior Princess herself, Lucy Lawless, after he ruins her photo on his dry cleaners’ wall. They end up on a date after sharing a mutual distaste for Ted Danson. And it might have gone well from there had Larry not gotten his tighty-whiteys in a bunch beforehand then misconstrued Lucy’s invite back to her house as more than dinner.
Before he knows it, Larry’s outside a fancy shin-dig he he financed but lost out on to Cheryl, arguing with Richard Lewis, who’s getting paid to headline. So he lands back at his now-bachelor pad with an ice pack and a wonky Tivo.
Clearly not his best day. The AP story indicates this will be an extended story arc to stay tuned.
