The Hollywood Reporter (among others) is reporting that the wildfires raging across Southern California are not only forcing hundreds of thousands of people to leave their homes, but also TV shows to regroup and reschedule shoots.
Take 24:
“24” was scheduled to film scenes featuring star Kiefer Sutherland at the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro near Irvine on Monday and Tuesday. Sutherland was on the set in one of the base’s hangars when filming was canceled at 7:30 a.m. Monday because of health reasons; the cast and crew had blurry eyes and difficulty breathing and were coughing from the smoke.
My question: Hmm. What was that scene about? Inquiring minds want to know.
Line producer Michael Klick told THR that 24 lost about five hours of worktime  actors not scheduled for Monday shoots were called in and work was done on the soundstages on shorter scenes.
Here’s a look at other series affected:
• Cold Case (CBS): Sets in Simi Valley were blown over Sunday.
• Big Shots (ABC): Had to cancel a cycling sequence planned for today in Malibu.
• The Riches (FX): Filming went on as scheduled yesterday (Monday) in the Santa Clarita area, but lost their LA County Sheriff’s deputies scheduled for traffic control.
• NCIS (CBS): A bunch of crew members skipped work to protect their homes.

Full disclosure: My dad lives a mere 15 miles from one of the fires, so I am not insensitive to the real import of what’s going on here. But this is a TV blog, and we’ve got to laugh when we can, no?
