ABC’s busting out with news

ABC’s ordered six more scripts of Samantha Who?, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That’s a pretty big vote of confidence after a mere two episodes have aired.
But I’ve seen the two episodes, and they’re pretty amusing. Hilarious? No? Funny? Yes, in large part due to star Christina Applegate, but also thanks to a strong supporting cast that includes Jean Smart (as her mom) and Tim Russ (as her doorman). Trekkies may recognize Russ as Tuvok from Voyager).
Samantha, in fact, is the highest-rated of the fall’s new sitcoms. Admittedly, there’s only six of them, so it’s not as huge as it sounds, but the second episode, which aired Monday, snagged 14.3 million viewers, not to shabby.
ABC also gave Private Practice, the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff, a full-season order.
Meanwhile, Zap2It.com has news on a bunch of other shows premiering and changing timeslots:
• Notes from the Underbelly, which ran a few episodes in the spring, comes back at 9:30 p.m. Nov. 26, snagging the spot after Samatha.
• October Road premieres after Grey’s on Nov. 22 (Big Shots usually airs then), then moves to its regular timeslot at 10 p.m. Nov. 26.
• Men in Trees, my guilty pleasure (more pleasure than guilt, though), moves to 8 p.m. starting next week, changing places with 20/20, which moves to 10 p.m.
• Dance War debuts at 8 p.m. Jan. 7. It’s a “singing-and-dancing competition fronted by Dancing with the Stars judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.”
My take:
• Notes, which we watched last spring, was pretty funny.
• October, my husband reported last spring, was awful.
• Good move for both Men in Trees and 20/20, each of which has lower ratings than last year.
• Do we need another dance competition on TV?

Thanks for the heads up on the time change for Men In Trees! I would have been upset if I missed it (I usually watch Ghost Whisperer, but I will be DVRing that one from now on!)
