Carpoolers, Moonlight sticking around a while longer

Two more freshmen series got a few extra episodes this week: Carpoolers on ABC and Moonlight on CBS.
The Carpoolers news comes via E!Online’s Watch with Kristin. The show, which has Grand View’s Tim Peper as one of four leads, got an order for three more scripts, for a total of 12 episodes.
The Hollywood Reporter brings us the Moonlight news. The Friday night vampire-detective drama got four more scripts, even though it’s CBS’ lowest-rated show of the night.
I can’t help but think that these script orders wouldn’t have come if it weren’t for the threat of a Hollywood writer’s strike.
Carpoolers has its moments. A chuckle here, a laugh there. But they’re few and far between. If it weren’t for Gracen’s son Marmaduke, played hilariously by T.J. Miller, I’m afraid the show might not even register on the laugh meter. And I’ve always been a Jerry O’Connell fan. And I always want to support LoHudders, natch.
As for Moonlight. Hmm. I can honestly say this show was a supreme disappointment. We’d DVR’d the first four episodes and I finally caught up with it this weekend.
I watched the first episode. Meh. But there was promise. And I’ve always liked vampire shows.
The second. Still an awful lot of exposition. I’m willing to give it a third shot.
The third. Halfway through, I still didn’t care about a single character, deleted the recording. Erased the fourth episode without watching and stopped the automatic weekly recording of the show.
It basically felt like to me a poor shadow of the pretty darn decent Blood Ties, which aired on Lifetime last spring. Blood Ties is far superior, with better acting and much better writing.
Wanna see a show about a vampire and private detective? Check Blood Ties out instead.

Blood Ties is infinitely superior in so many ways to Moonlight – better writing, better acting, better score, and especially more interesting characters. Vicki is a tough, strong and self-reliant private investigator with two great men in her life: Mike, a hunky cop, and Henry, a sexy vampire. The writers of Blood Ties assume that the viewers are reasonably intelligent, and don’t make the mistake of “dumbing down” the script for our “benefit.” One of the most annoying facets of Moonlight is the near constant voiceover, telling us what the main character is feeling at any given moment. On Blood Ties, we know what the characters are feeling because of the talent of the very excellent lead actors! Inexplicably, however, Lifetime, the channel that presents Blood Ties here in the States, has relegated Blood Ties to a Friday night slot at 11:00, and given no word on whether they plan to renew this wonderful and thought-provoking series for another season. Please, do yourself a favor and watch a “vampire show” done the way it’s supposed to be. You won’t be disappointed, and you might well become addicted!
I agee with the article and previous assessment of Moonlight and Blood Ties. It is about caring for the characters and their interaction. The “entertainment” value is because we are drawn into their lives and connections and allowed to experience events with them. The characters in Moonlight have not been memorable enough to form a connection. I hope Blood Ties is renewed for additional episodes – the actors and premise of the show is superior.
This is so true, the draw of a “vampire” show is that the emotions are still so human. There’s obviously something to it when those of us who saw the trailor were immediately transfixed. It is amazing because, as Lynn, said we see their relationships and their emotions in a way that Moonlight has not been able to convey.
I’m so glad to see there are other like-minded vampire fans out there.
I agree that Blood Ties is just far superior.
This is its second season, however, so that is good news.
The bad news is, as Sylvie pointed out, that it’s airing at 11 p.m. Fridays! To be honest, that had even slipped by me and I haven’t set up my DVR yet. I’ll be sure to get it programmed tonight!
I Love Blood Ties, and Lifetime would be very Foolish and Blind not to renew it for another season… very out of touch with what the viewers want. The acting and chemistry is the main draw to Blood Ties… the storylines are imaginative and thrilling to see unfold. I kinda like Moonlight, and I’m willing to give it a chance… but it does pale in comparison… it just doesn’t have the same vampire punch and intrigue that Blood Ties has. The romantic scenes just don’t come across on Moonlight, for some reason? I am “in Love” with Blood Ties!!
I have a fondness for both Moonlight and Blood Ties.
I do enjoy watching both shows, and I’ve seen all episodes of both shows.
I’ve enjoyed Moonlight so far and look forward to seeing this show develop.
My addition is to Blood Ties tho, I can honestly say. Right now we fans are hanging in the balance waiting and wondering the fate of the show. If the show is not renewed, someone, somewhere is making a huge mistake. There are so many fans out there that adore Blood Ties! Blood ties is so addicting, intriguing, mysterious, sexy, and romantic…need I say more?
