‘Gossip Girl’ has a ball

So you know you loved that masquerade ball last night.

The costumes, the secrets, little J giving evil Chuck his come-uppance.

XOXO, no?

I really like the fact that the show isn’t making Jenny a shrinking violet: This is the second time in a row that J got the best of Blair. Last week she talked her way out of an arrest at Blair’s mom’s clothing store (and walked off with a fab couture jacket to boot); this installment had her sneaking into the party when B had specifically told her she couldn’t come.

But something tells me Jenny isn’t getting off so easy this time, now that B knows she was Cinderella in disguise.

B’s nasty little squint at the end leads me to suspect a plan: I’m guessing B sets J up for “stealing” that borrowed bracelet she was supposed to return.

(Man, these ladies play hardball. The mean-girl troublemakers in my high school might have gotten someone detention; on “GG,” victims may earn a criminal record.)

Plus, we got introduced to Vanesa last night: Dan’s best friend/ex nearly put a crimp in his plans to woo Serena. Vanessa’s a big deal in the “GG” novels, so fans of the books were waiting for this character’s debut.

As producer Stephanie Savage told Entertainment Weekly in this interview, the show’s gotten a lot of flack for changes they’ve made from the books, including their decision to give Vanessa hair. (Lots of it, in fact: Unlike actress Jessica Szohr and her curly mane, on-the-page Vanessa has a shaved head.)

The mask is a gattina oro/bianco. Just run a google search on it and you’ll find a similar one.
