Ricky Schroeder could have been Jack Bauer?

OK, not quite, but 24 creator Joel Surnow, according to ABC Action News in Tampa Bay “was keen to cast a more youthful actor as lead in the action series.”

But then he met Kiefer, who was a whopping 34 at the time (the Rickster was only 31), and it was all over.
We’d conceived Jack as a guy who had a 16-year-old daughter but was still youthful enough to appeal to the Fox audience, which is skewed towards ‘young.’
Then Kiefer’s name came up and “it was like, ‘Bingo, this is the perfect guy.’ He’s got enough miles on him but he still has echoes of the Brat Pack films he’s associated with.”
Phew! Dodged that bullet.

Well, I’m certainly glad Kiefer got the part, but what Brat Pack films was he ever associated with? (although he did Young Guns with Emilio Estevez, who was in the pack). I think Joel was confused but it worked out for the best!
