Office quick hits: Brian’s NFL picks, a glimpse inside the writer’s room and an X-rated Office

November

…If Dunder Mifflin Paper had a Carmel, N.Y., branch and the next episode was going to be set there, you can bet I’d be pitching my editors a daily about that. Well, Utica’s News Channel 2/WKTV didn’t let the opportunity pass, putting this piece together in advance of Thursday’s “Branch Wars”. They seem pretty tickled about the honor.

If Brian Baumgartner and Angela Kinsey ever came to Carmel for an Office Convention, rest assured I’d be there. (AP Photo/Matt Rourke)

…Like a lot of fans, New York Magazine isn’t keen on an Office spin-off. And they really skewer NBC chief Ben Silverman in making the point. New York Magazine didn’t think hour-long episodes were a good idea, so what do they know. Just for that, I’m not even going to link to the piece. You’ll just have to Google for it yourselves.

…So what if The Office was about the adult film industry instead of a paper company? That’s what TVSquad is asking in its report about Canoga Park, a Playboy TV project billed as an X-rated cross between The Office and Entourage. The news itself isn’t that interesting or even Office-related. But the reader responses are hilarious and decidedly Dunderheaded.

…Someone went to a lot of trouble to compile the Top 10 That’s What She Said’s. Unfortunately it’s chock full of copyrighted material, so it wouldn’t be kosher for me to embed it here. Here’s the link. It rocks.

…Let me be clear on this, Hollywood Press TV is not now nor ever has been, in my experience, funny. But when Ed Helms announces his intention to seek The Presidency of These United States, well, that’s worth sharing. Just don’t blame me when you don’t laugh.

…A lot of people are looking forward to American Gangster, allegedly the next great American crime epic in the tradition of The Godfather, Goodfellas and The Departed. Me? I’m looking forward to Walk Hard, the John C. Reilly faux biopic about the acclaimed and imagined Dewey Cox that opens Dec. 21. I’d like to say it’s for the music, which you can read about and sample a few bars of here. And I’d like to duck from the fact that it’s for the chance to gawk at Jenna Fischer looking like she does in the photo at that link. So that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it. (Is there a better title for a song than “Let’s Duet”?)

…Spoiler alert: Want to see clips from “Survivor Man”, the Nov. 8 episode? Check out three of them here. I don’t know why you’d want to see the show before you see the show, but that’s your problem. Just don’t spoil me with any detailed comments.

…It’s weird hearing Brian Baumgartner speak because he doesn’t sound a thing like Kevin Malone. It’s weirder hearing him speak alongside Rich Eisen, the only man on television with a duller delivery than Kevin. Hear for yourself in this clip from NFL Video, in which Baumgartner makes his picks of the week. Is it more surprising that he takes the Colts over New England or that Turtle from Entourage went 7-3?

…Want to feel even worse that you didn’t make it to The Office Convention in Scranton, Pa., last week? Check out this bootlegged clip from the introduction to the Writer’s Block panel discussion. Turns out art does imitate life.

Steve Carell might attend the convention next year, on one little condition, GiveMeMyRemote.com reports.
