I kind of imagine that’s how the pitch for this pilot went:
“Picture the Bible crossed with All My Children or Dirty Sexy Money.”
“That sounds great!”
NBC ordered a pilot at the last minute, giving the OK for “Kings,” which The Hollywood Reporter described “a contemporary soap loosely based on the story of King David, the Biblical king of Israel.”
The one-hour pilot was written by Michael Green, one of the co-executive producers on Heroes. Francis Lawrence (lost of music videos, plus Constantine and I Am Legend) will direct.
The show is set in the present day. Green told THR that its main character is “a regular small-town guy who gets mixed up with the upper crust social and political elite of a monarchy and eventually would become the new king.”
The plot of the soap, which will feature magical elements, loosely parallels the story of the biblical David, a shepherd boy who went on to defeat the giant Goliath and become Israel’s second king.
Yeah, but does the guy have a slingshot?
