Comedies cut short? Sure, but canceled? Nope

November
14

Satellite shock jocks Opie & Anthony are kidders, but their announcement yesterday that NBC had axed The Office, 30 Rock and My Name Is Earl was taken seriously by some.

The blogosphere lit up with the news, which you might have heard if you were listening to 92.3 FM between 6 and 9 a.m. The thing is, it wasn’t true. This is the same duo that was canned in the late 90s for announcing on air that the mayor of Boston had been killed in an auto accident. He hadn’t. They also lost their jobs five years ago over an on-air contest that prompted a couple to engage in a sex act inside St. Patrick’s Cathedral, using a cellphone to broadcast their actions.

Given all that, it’s hard to believe anyone bought the story about the cancellations. But apparently some people did.

But while they’re not canceled, they could be disappearing for a long time, and it’s anybody’s bet what shows will return. Odds seem to be against newer shows like Bionic Woman and Chuck. 30 Rock and The Office would appear to be safe, but who knows?

While you won’t get much Office after tomorrow, Pam Beesly will be hitting the big screen for the second time this year in “Walk Hard”, for which I posted a video earlier today. Here’s blurb from Variety.com about Jenna Fischer’s desire to be other than a shrinking violet. Fischer and on-screen nemesis Rashida Jones made an appearance (see page scan from inStyle magazine) at a fundraiser for the MONA Foundation, which supports educational initiatives for women.

Heroes fans, meanwhile, can check out a couple of cool interviews, one with Greg Grunberg and another with Adrian Pasdar, who play Matt Parkman and Nathan Petrelli, respectively.

That is exactly what you need to do to understand these guys…. Linger Longer

  2. Lil Conner

If you listened between 6am-7am you would have been in on the joke. They were telling the truth about the Sun burning out in less than 200 years. Scientific America just published an article about it that is hitting academic circles now.

people need to f’n relax. talking about o and a’s past is getting old as well. yes they did report the boston mayor was dead(on april fools day) which was funny cause the mayor is a bumbling idiot. but they are talking about fake stories about football players and t.v shows, horrible t.v. shows at that. these stories are made up by their listeners and then ran with by the show’s hosts. to say people are “in an uproar” and “disgruntled” is rediculous. just because a “few” people write comments(idiots who have nothing better to do than to worry about a f’n tv show) o and a get negative feed back. they are brilliant. they get these idiots to freak out every tuesday during their make stuff up promo which is exactly what they want. beautiful.

Still no press on the sun exploding in 200 years.

  5. Chocolate Rain

I wasn’t too concerned about this….I’m still all shook up over Tom Brady’s suspension, not to mention Pat Sayjack, how’s he doing?

  6. Norden

It is bad when people get mad at comedians for making jokes but they don’t get this mad when big news networks like CNN and FOX News edit news stories to lie about what is actually reported.

5 years ago they were getting press for a couple having sex in a church. Now it comes from spreading rumors of Tom Brady being suspended and major TV shows being cancelled. Times have changed.

People need to get over the past. Its old. I do understand we need to linger longer to get some jokes, but stop bringing up St Pats and Mumbles Menino. To find out more about NBC, Pat Sayjack and Tom Brady go to the Comedy Connection in East Providence Rhode Island this Friday and Saturday November 16 and 17 both nights at 8 and 10 pm where Jim Norton will be talking all about these events.

Opie and Anthony are hacks. Wannabe Howard Stern clones. They are getting dropped in a bunch of markets with horrible ratings everywhere else. Now they are the fake rumor guys and the $1000.00 give away-PRIZE Guys….. Bwah hahahahaha. They have become what they used to despised. Go away losers.

Great point Lil Conner. Dude, sometimes they do cover real stories like Sun burning out in less than 200 years. Dude, Ant’s explanation of this was far more understandable than the Scientific America article. If you google “Baby in the oven” you will understand the effects we will feel in our lifetime. I almost fell and broke my knee man when I read this. I really almost broke it dude.
