‘Gossip Girl’ spotlights NYC band

“Gossip Girl” producer Josh Schwartz is at it again: He’s doing his best to launch the career of an indie band he knows and loves, the Virgins.
The New York City-based group, which has amassed a cult following despite only having released one EP, will be featured in tonight’s episode, “Seventeen Candles.”
As the title suggests, it’s happy birthday to Blair. Except for the happy part, that is.
Poor B. is super-sad because her relationship with Nate is on the rocks. But she fakes her way through her swanky b-day bash, which the Virgins will be headlining.
Introducing underground music through a mainstream TV show is something Josh has done before. “The O.C.,” which Josh created, was well known for its music: Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie and Rooney saw a huge surge in sales after they guest starred on the “GG” precursor. (Ah, Seth Cohen, I do miss you…)
Are the Virgins selling out, or wonderfully lucky to get such big exposure? You decide.
In the meantime, if you want to catch some of the Virgins’ tunes before tuning in to “GG” tonight, go to the band’s My Space page.
XOXO, music lovers!
