The “American Idol” judges seem psyched about Season 7’s Top 12. But are they just blown away because Season 6 was so subpar?
Simon Cowell told Extra that he’s this year’s Top 12 are more identity-driven. Usually this is Idol-speak for “Cute faces and/or human interest stories who can’t sing a lick,” but Simon follows that statement with a bolder one:
This will be the strongest 12 we’ve ever had, and I never, ever have said that before. But this year genuinely is the strongest we’ve got.”
He added that not only are there girls as talented as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood in this year’s crop, but also “the guys are as good as the girls.” And that hasn’t happened since maybe Season 2, when Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard battled it out for the “Idol” crown.
There are “12 possible contenders for record deals,” according to Paula Abdul. Then again, Paula herself released multiple records. So take this statement with a grain of salt.
Randy is equally psyched, Dawg. Find out what he said after the break.
Quoth the Jackson:
I think it’s the best we’ve ever had.
He also joked that someone with hair would win this season. Meanwhile a guy without hair these days seems to be doing fine without it—or an Idol title.
“American Idol” premieres Jan. 15.

why should we take what paula says with a grain of salt??. she is a very positive person, but she knows what shes talking about. and just because you get a record deal (which a lot of non-winners have gotten), doesnt mean that the record will be successful (like paulas were). see, paula is smarter than some people seem to give her credit for =) anyway i am very excited about the new season. because i heard they have made a few changes in order to improve the show from last year.
