Promoting Jericho

December
17

Now that we have a premiere date — Feb. 12 — for our beloved Jericho, there’s no time like the present to figure out how to promote Jericho and get new folks to watch.

FORA (that’s Friend Of Remote Access) Lisibee/Beth has created a wonderful Season 2 promo that’s on YouTube. So has the incomparable Rubber Poultry.

CBS has also finally created a Season 2 promo that went online over the weekend (and aired during the season finale of Survivor last night!).

Now, in the olden days of, say, last year, it was up to the networks to promote their shows. But when CBS brought back Jericho from cancellation, the Eye network laid this job squarely in the fans’ laps.

We, you, the fans must help build viewership.

So let’s do it. Beth & RP have done an excellent job with their promos. But not everyone has the skill to create vids like these.

Some people have appended Jericho messages to their e-mail signatures. Others have begged and cajoled every family member they have into watching the re-runs this summer. Others put poster signs on their lawns.

Many others have blogged.

Jane, creator of the Jericho Monster blog, has worked tirelessly to get the word out, even winning Hey! Nielsen’s Best TV Blogger contest earlier this year. She has three blogs dedicated to Jericho (In addition to the Monster, she has jerichocentral and Arabelle’s Alley) and even scored interviews with Soshannah Stern (Bonnie), April Parker-Jones (Darcy) and Lennie James (Hawkins), among others.

Other blogs and chat rooms that have worked insanely hard to get the word out:
• Jericho on CBS, with links, thoughts and vids
• Jericho Junction, which I’ve come to regard as almost a blogs clearinghouse, having found links to lots of good stuff to comment about on here.
• Jericho 4 Kids, whose pint-size authors have scored many, many A list interviews with the show’s stars (just goes to show how fandom has no bounds, plus what a class act these Jericho stars are)
• Radio Free Jericho, a message board where anyone who’s anyone in Jericho fandom talks about the show, the actors, the characters, Jennings & Rall and shares fan fiction and artwork.

These are really just barely even the tip of the iceberg and I don’t want anyone who blogs on Jericho to even remotely feel ignored if you’re not on the above list.

These and other fans have done so incredibly much to promote the show. Heck, just the amount of free publicity that CBS and Jericho got in the coverage of the Nuts campaign alone was worth its price in peanuts. Literally.

So what else can we do?

Jericho fans already have proved themselves to be among the most creative out there. If anyone can come up with new and different ways to promote the show, it’s you.

What can we do? What should we do? What can CBS do? (I have to admit, airing a promo for Season 2 during the Survivor finale was not to shabby!)

We have a little less than 2 months.

Great article! Thanks for the kind words about RFJ :-)

One thing that some of us have started doing, is meeting every Tuesday night in http://www.jeritopia.com

We have been talking about Season 2 and ways to help promote the show. Getting old and new fans reconnected and recharged about Jericho is so important right now!
