Strike-induced reading: Saving Charlie

If any of the end-of-year round-ups, best-of’s and top-whatever lists have a category for best aborted storyline, my vote would be for that of Charlie on Heroes.
OK, to be fair, she came and went before the ball dropped on 2006, but for half of 2007 I rooted for her time travel-assisted return. If nothing else, she’d be far less annoying than Claire, Nikki, Maya, Molly or even Mohinder. But a fan favorite she wasn’t to be.

An upcoming NBC-authorized novel fixes to right that wrong, however. “Saving Charlie”, by author Aury Wallington and due out Dec. 26, is sanctioned by NBC and was assisted by Tim Kring and Co, BuddyTV reports.
Charlie was the greasy spoon waitress with an uncanny knack for learning things like physics and the Japanese language. She was charming and easy to root for. A Hiro-Charlie romance wouldn’t likely inspire a 400-year personal vendetta or end in someone getting stranded in an alternate, plague-plagued reality. Win-win, no?
But then Sylar came along and sliced her head open. Funny how we never saw much of him exhibiting his acquired evil, uber-academic skills (though Heroes Wiki cays he used her power to memorize a truck’s instruction manual in Road Kill).
On the show, Charlie revealed that she was dying of a brain tumor and told Hiro that he’d saved her simply by making her feel alive. BuddyTV says…
In this book, however, viewers will learn more about Hiro and Charlie’s previous love lives. Although it basically centers on the Hiro and Charlie’s relationship, it also explores on the characters’ nature and personalities.

That sounds like an interesting novel based on the side story.
I think when Hiro went back in time to try to save Charlie, that she died from the brain tumor, not Sylar murdering her. I might be mistaken, but if that’s true, Sylar wouldn’t have use of her power.
Charlie was always a favorite of mine, and I agree, she would’ve been a much more interesting character than half the new people. I maintain Hiro could’ve gone back in time and dosed her with Claire’s blood to save her from the brain tumor. Then she could be the resident expert on everything for the heroes.
