Finishing some business with Battlestar Galactica

Before Season 4 airs, you should have a few days to catch up on BSG’s Season 3.
The release date is March 25 for the entire season (Season 2 was sold initially in two parts, Season 2 and Season 2.5, as the season itself was aired in two parts).
According to TVShowsOnDVD it’ll be a six-DVD package and there will be 25 minutes of never-before-seen fotage for the “Unfinished Business” episode alone. There will be 15 hours of bonus material.
The cost? $59.98.
Look, I know in the greater scheme of things that there are better ways to spend $60. But I’m a pretty frugal girl and don’t spend money willy-nilly. I can’t think of a better way to spend the cash.
“Unfinished Business,” you see, is that infamous episode where we learn that Apollo and Starbuck finally admitted their feelings for one another, had a night of passion and the next morning she got hitched to Anders before Apollo woke up. You know, the episode where Apollo and Starbuck beat the poo-poo out of one another in the boxing ring. Where, in another flashback, we learn that Roslin and the Admiral finally accepted the fact that their feelings toward one another was more than simple friendship.
And how, my friends, does one put a price on another 25 minutes of exploring those storylines?
Anyway, some have made hay about how this set is coming out after Season 4 begins. But I don’t think that’s the case. I can’t recall where I read it, and I know I blogged on it at some point, the season actually begins in April. One episode airs in March, and that’s a recap episode, for folks who’ve not watched BSG before.
So never fear. If you want to watch all of Season 3 before Season 4 rolls around, you should get your chance.

I just finished Season 1 and have Season 2 in my NetFlix queue. It’s going to be a while before I get all caught up, but it’ll be fun in the meantime. It’ll be hard to resist new episodes when I’m still so far behind.
Heck, I only learned this week that Tom Zarek is played by the original series’s Apollo.
Thank god, I’ve been waiting to find out when this set came out. I need to catch the last four or five episodes before the new season starts.
And Brian, stick with it. It only gets better. One of the most dazzling experiences I’ve ever experienced with a television show. And I haven’t finished the third season yet.
OMG, I forgot ever watching the original BSG, but while I was watching season 1 of the current BSG (I’m a newbie also Brian and I’m just starting on Season 2 also)I saw Tom Zarek and remembered him from the original. Turns out I didn’t watch every episode of the original show as a kid, but my family did watch sometimes. Hmmm, now I’m going to have to add the original to Netflix and compare the two.
See Amy, you’ve created a monster here!
Brian – Watching Season 4 before watching Season 3 will truly spoil several Season 3 episodes. I’m not gonna tell you what to do, but you need to know that going in.
C’mon Now – You won’t be disappointed. The last few episodes of Season 3 were OUTstanding. Truly amazing. Baltar’s trial was compelling television.
Yvonne – I preface this by saying that I’m a huge fan of the original and I own the entire old-style Cylon-head box set of the original series. I also own the original BSG theatrical release. I was desperately in love with Apollo/Richard Hatch as a young girl. OK. That said, there’s no comparison at all. The original was a fun space romp that was kinda cheesy, but still pretty good (had some great guest stars, including Fred Astaire as a con man who may or may not have been the original, male, Starbuck’s dad! By the way, Astaire requested a role on the show.).
OK, so what I’m trying to say is that comparing the two is like trying to compare the movies “Mars Attacks!” and “Independence Day.” They were two different types of movies trying to do two different things. It just happened both were about alien invasions of Earth that the plucky humans managed to push back.
That said, I’m very glad to have helped bring at least a couple more people into the BSG fold. The remake has made for stellar (pun intended) television.
