Somewhere over the rainbow for Katharine McPhee might be a new record deal, which she now needs because the “American Idol” Season 5 runner-up was just dropped from her label.
To McPhee’s credit, we’ve gotten to the point of this Top 20 list when I can start to recall multiple memorable songs from a contestant’s tour on the show. McPhee’s rendition of “Rainbow” was definitely a Joey Lawrence “Whoa!” moment, and her performance of “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” helped make KT Tunstall’s track a certified hit.
One of McPhee’s singing quirks involved sitting or stretching on the floor for entire songs, which would prompt me to yell “Get up already!” at the screen.
Although McPhee hasn’t sold as many records as Season 5 champ Taylor Hicks, her single “Over It” could frequently be heard on Top 40 radio stations last year. And while Hicks seems to be focused exclusively on music, McPhee is hoping to parlay her exposure from “Idol” to other media. Although McPhee showed much of herself in a layout for Stuff magazine, fans can see more of her in three upcoming films: “I Know What Boys Like,” “The Last Caller” and “Success.”

The only reason mcphee hasn't got more followers is her 43yr old daddy/fiance. Let's look back from American Idol and you'll see that she was building fans an momentum until she started mentioning her 43 yr old boyfriend Nick Cokas. Touting herself as a role model for young girls didn't go over well with her daddy/fiance following her around everywhere she toured.She does have a great voice and she could probably have been a fan favorite had it not been for her craze for this jerk who has been a failure as an actor and producer. Next for her is the marriage and that will just about end any hopes for her being a success unless she winds up in playboy or nude roles in films. You'll most likely hear pregnancy news as soon as she is married to her 43 yr old daddy/fiance pervert.Good Luck Katharine Cokas and don't forget to stock up on viagra.

To the topic: The "other label" that was mentioned that she's in negotiations with is rumored to be Warner or A&M, or possibly both. It's obvious that RCA mismanaged her, and they're getting really defensive about all of the articles implying that.
The music industry is really changing, and BMG is cleaning house. This month it was Taylor, Ruben, and Kat that were let go.{Actually, Kat wasn't under contract. Her original contract was for one album with a label option. They had a year to decide whether to pick up the option, and they declined. Hence the "parted ways" way they phrased it.} But next year, it will be Blake, who won't even reach Kat's numbers, and possibly Clay. At this point, only Carrie and Chris Daughtry, and possibly Kelly, are safe.
You mccokas fans need to come to reality! Well Step 1 has happend with her being dropped by her label.I'll just sit back now and watch what happens when she has her wedding to her daddy/pervert.That will be step 2 in the destruction of a promising career.Step 3 will be the pregnancy news is known and then its all over, so get "OVER IT".From some of her remarks in the past she might be diagnosed with a mental issue over her wanting older men? Anyway McCokas fans We'll see in time if someone wants to invest in her career when they see the same thing that most of the public sees.

Glad to see Kat on this list! I don't feel so bad knowing Kat parted ways with Sony/BMG now that I know how they treated Annie Lennox! That was rough.
I wonder how she likes unemployment? At least Taylor has a book deal and the support of the Soul Patrol. He's slowly getting there, but he will be remembered for years to come. Isn't she so hard up that she's trying to sell her wedding photos? LOL

There is a possible explanation to every thing that happens but we could never be certain; we could only surmise. We all might have been victims of our own follies in our lifetime, but we could also try to reinvent ourselves and learn from our mistakes. there are a bunch of sick people out there, that do not know music, i am 62, and the music today stinks, I enjoyed katharine mcphee, and she should make it bigger, than the rest of the clowns on this list, she is in a class of her her own!
