An "All My Children" Reunion!

January
16

“All My Children” is the only soap opera I’ve ever watched, and that was way back in the 1980s, when Jenny, Greg, Tad, Angie and Jesse were central characters and made up some of the main storylines. Boy, was I hooked, for about two years. Some of the characters from back then could probably even be, sadly, dead in real life: such as Phoebe, Langely, Palmer and some of the other oldsters.

amc.jpgBut I digress. I was excited to read Micheal Logan’s report in the current “TV Guide” that Jesse (the dynamic Darnell Williams, left in the photo, with Cornelius “Quentin” Smith Jr.) and Angie (cutie-pie Debbi Morgan) will soon be re-united. Say what? Jesse was shot to death 20 years ago! But this being a soap, ANYTHING is possible—even reviving a character two decades after he died.

Dr. Angie, now an infectious-disease specialist, says Logan, will be called to Pine Valley to help with a strange disease contracted by Greenlee and Quentin. (Remember how Angela made it through medical school in just two years? Again, remember that this is soap-land.) Quentin will conveniently turn out to be Angie and Jesse son, Frankie. Angie returns to “AMC” on January 18, and won’t know Jesse is alive when he blows into town on January 25. Meanwhile, Jesse will be appearing to Tad in spirit form, and it will be he, “Tad the Cad,” who brings the dynamic duo together. Next thing you know, Jenny will somehow have survived her Jet-Ski accident. (God forbid, as Kim Delaney is as wooden as can be.)

I’ve peeked into “AMC” a few times over the last few years, and it’s strange to see Michael E. Knight (Tad) as a middle-aged man, gray hair and all. He’s still good looking, mind you, but not as much fun and cute as he was “back in the day.”

Still, I think I’ll record “All My Children” starting January 18, fast-forward to the Angie stuff and consider doing that until she and Jesse are reunited. In traditional soap style, the storyline will be dragged out for weeks, but—hey—it may be worth it, if only for sentiment’s sake!
