Jericho Season 2 info; no spoilers

January
18

Well, I saw the first three episodes of Season 2 last night and they really are fantastic.

I have to admit, it felt weird, after so much time, to see new episodes of Jericho. It took me until about halfway through the first episode, “Reconstruction,” to really settle in. I think part of it was that, given the fact that the season’s story is 22 episodes worth compressed into seven, it took a little bit of the first ep to comfortably settle into the new direction the story’s taking.

I wanted to share some information about the episodes, but I promise none are true spoilers. They’re mostly cast tidbits, such as who’s in what episode. I thought long and hard about what I would reveal and what I wouldn’t, as I know many of you really don’t want to know spoilery stuff ahead of time.

With that in mind, I present you with the following:
• The first three episodes are “Reconstruction,” “Condor” and “Jennings & Rall.”
• “Reconstruction” opens pretty much exactly where we left off, then quickly jumps ahead after tying it up.

• The subtitle might as well be “The Jake and Hawkins story.” I don’t mean this in any bad way. But the first three episodes are very heavy Jake- (Skeet Ulrich) and Hawkins- (Lennie James) focused. Again, I think that’s in large part due to the compressed nature of the season. The two of them and our happy lovebirds (above) get the lion’s share of screen time.
• Heather (Sprague Grayden) is in the first and third episodes. Even with her not being in the second episode, she still easily gets as much screen time overall as Emily (Ashley Scott), who doesn’t have much of any import to say until about Episode 3.
• Dale (Erik Knudsen) wasn’t listed on the press release for the first episode because he’s not in it. He doesn’t show up until Episode 3, but plays a very key role then.
• Bonnie (Shoshannah Stern) was missing from the press release because she’s not in the first episode. But she’s in the second and third eps.

• Darcy Hawkins (April Parker-Jones) has lots of screen time throughout and is developing wonderfully as a character.
• Deputy Jimmy (Bob Stephenson) is back!
• The peanuts not only get a cameo, but a close-up in the premiere episode.
• Maj. Beck (Esai Morales) is a straight-up kinda guy. Comes across as a sort of a hardass, but I think we’re going to like him.
• We pretty much learn most of Jake’s backstory.
• We both learn more about Hawkins backstory and realize we know less than we ever imagined about him.

You are killing me!!! Thanks, though, for not spoiling things. I'm very happy about April's screen time.

I just have one question for you. If you were a new viewer how do you think you'd like these 3 eps?

I think the way they structured it, the very first episode might be more enjoyable for a new viewer than an old viewer. I say that only because in condensing what would have been 22 episodes into seven, some story suffered. I think that, after so much time, there probably was an expectation in our Jericho-saturated brains for certain elements of the battle and the immediate aftermath. That's sort of rushed through here. But like I said above, by halfway through the first episode, I felt more comfortably settled in.

They have Skeet narrating a brief explanation of Season 1 that I think is satisfactory background for folks who didn't see it.

But the three episodes are funny, touching and action-packed. Seriously. They're really good.

As someone who has also seen the 3 episodes, I must concur with your assessment. However, I am very concerned that NEW viewers will have NO idea what is going on. It isn't something you can just jump into. This is a huge worry. If people haven't seen the show before or bought the DVD's, they probably won't watch as it is too confusing (regular viewers will love it though.) Love the Stimi stuff, and glad that Emily's role is diminished as you stated. However…..other aspects about her character bother me, but I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen the episodes yet.

Although I love the new episodes I am deeply missing some of the characters that have not been brought back—mostly the ones that delivered comedic relief. That was one aspect of the show I loved. i don't think it has the same tone with respect to the one liners delivered brilliantly by Gerald mcraney and even stanley. but it is really exciting and a lot of surprises. i think it is more like the second half of the season—action packed and dramatic.

That's kinda funny, Sam – we must have hit "submit comment" at the same time.

I disagree, though. I think that this can stand on its own. I thought they wisely chose items to put in the Skeet intro and also in the "previously on" segments for each ep as well.

You'll have to come back after the show airs so we can discuss Emily and all the other good stuff once everyone else has seen it.

I watched the first three eps last night and to be honest I was kind of disappointed (don't stone me). I have watched series one three times now and I felt that the new season has somehow lost a lot of what made it so watchable for me.
The loss of Gerald McRaney (Johnston Green) as well as Pamela Reed (Gail Green and not offered a contract for series 2) really hurts the show.
I won't give away any details but for me the first season kills season 2 hands down.
