Start the bidding now: NBC puts Dwight on the block

I paid $15 or $20 for my Dwight Schrute bobble head, and even if you think that’s pathetic silly, it’s still a very cool desk accessory, second only to my talking Michael Scott bobble head.
But for an opening bid of just $25 you might be able to put the wobbly-noggined Beetmeister himself alongside your stapler and “World’s Best Boss” mug and have it signed by Rainn Wilson to boot.
The sought-after figure can be had at NBC.com/auctions, where all manner of licensed Peacock merchandise is up for bid.
Want a Jenna Maroney “Me Want Food” T-shirt from 30 Rock? (And who doesn’t?) Or the scarecrow prop from Kenneth Ellen’s party? The opening bids are $20 apiece.
Besides The Office and 30 Rock, there are items from Heroes, Friday Night Lights and Las Vegas. So if a couple of Hiro Nakamura’s origami birds fit your fancy, or a Panthers championship ring is more your style, bid away.
A portion of all auction proceeds benefit The United Way.
Personally, while I like a lot of shows, I’m only obsessive passionate about The Office. But while Michael’s lucky tie from Season 2’s “The Client” is pretty snazzy, and his Chrismas card to Carol (in which he Photoshopped himself into her family photo in place of her ex-husband) would be quite the showpiece, I’m not sure about some of the other items.
Pam’s cardigan from “Take Your Daughter to Work Day” ($40)? Talk about dowdy. The red sweater from “A Benihana Christmas” would’ve been a better choice. Isaac Mendez’s painting outfit? A lot of good it did him when Sylar showed up at his studio.
There is only one signed Dwight Schrute bobble head on the block, and the entire proceeds from its auction will benefit the Mona Foundation, which supports children’s education projects throughout the world. The auction ends Jan. 30.
The other autographed Dwight doll collectible will be given away in a sweepstakes at NBCStore.com\Dwight that runs from Jan. 21-Feb. 21. Both the auction and sweepstakes winners get Season 3 of the show on DVD to boot (even though Season 2 DVDs would be better).
It turns out 150,000 of the Dwight Schrute bobble heads have been sold since they first went on sale in April 2006. (I got mine two months later.) That makes it the biggest seller in the NBC Universal Store’s eight-year history.
“The desire to take home a piece of ‘The Office’ with the Dwight bobblehead has exceeded all of our expectations,” said Judith Dutch, vice president, retail operations and consumer marketing, NBC Universal.
Adds showrunner Greg Daniels, “Yes, they are fun, but they also serve a business purpose. People who want to manage by consensus can buy six and keep them nodding all the time to whatever they say.”
