OMG! Is ‘Gossip Girl’ a guy?

Gossipmonger Ben Widdicombe dished some juicy “GG” dirt in his New York Daily News column yesterday: The identity of the show’s unseen narrator/blogger.
The big reveal came after Mr. W wrote about an ongoing, on-set catfight between the two female stars, Blake Lively (Serena) and Leighton Meester (Blair).
(First, a side comment on that tidbit: Yawn. Seems like that’s the go-to rumor for shows involving strong, beautiful women, a la “Sex and the City.”)
Anyway, the big news is that GG is supposedly one of the male characters, and I agree with NY Magazine that the supposed snarkmeister is pretty unbelievable.
I mean, Eric van der Woodsen, seriously?
Serena’s suicidal little bro? (Whose depressive tendencies seem to have disappeared since the pilot episode, BTW?)
Eric van der Woodsen (played by Connor Paolo)
NY Mag correctly notes that Eric was in a mental institution when GG was blissfully blogging away about Serena’s return to the Big Apple, and it’s unlikely that those pesky psychiatrists would allow unlimited Internet and cell phone access to patients in lockdown.
And having GG be a guy sort of throws a monkey wrench into the narration voiced by “Heroes” star Kristen Bell, no?
I suppose the show could come up with some kind of ridiculous explanation, but I’m guessing even the cheesiest of writers wouldn’t push the soap-opera limits that far.
Anyway, here’s some “GG” news you can take to the bank: A 90-minute special, “Gossip Girl Revealed,” airs at 8 p.m. Monday.
With nothing but reruns in sight because of the writers’ strike, “GG” is moving to Monday nights from Wednesdays after tonight to try to snag some extra viewers.
The special is basically a rerun of the pilot episode, but it’s hosted by the cast and offers some never-before-seen footage and features on the show’s fabu wardrobe and funky musical selections.
But one thing that I’m sure won’t be revealed yet is Gossip Girl’s identity. So for now, Eric, if indeed you are GG, your secret’s safe with us.

This cant be true because the show is based on the book and in the book Eric is older than Serena and in college, he wouldnt have any idea about what is going on with the Gossip Girl cast
