SciFi snags Jericho reruns

The SciFi Channel this morning announced that it snagged the rerun rights to Jericho.
What does this mean to you, the viewer? Well, Jericho’s Season 1 will debut on SciFi in a four-episode marathon, 7-11 p.m., on Feb. 11, the day before Season 2 debuts on CBS. The following week, it settles into its regular time slot, 10 p.m. Mondays.
This is excellent news, as SciFi fans who hadn’t previously watched Jericho might become more interested in the show.
Thomas Vitale, a senior veep at SciFi, had this to say:
Jericho is a gripping science fiction series that SCI FI Channel is excited to add to our schedule. Thanks to the passion and persistence of its loyal viewers who saved this program from being canceled, new viewers can now experience this show for the first time on the SCI FI Channel while CBS continues the story in its second season run starting this February.
This isn’t the only Jericho news out there. It’s been piling up, so here’s a whole bunch:
• Rich, over at Copywrite, Ink, had some interesting comments about why Jericho fans wouldn’t watch the leaked first three episodes online and why such leaks sometimes happen.
• Showrunner Carol Barbee tells SciFiWire that she figures she’ll know pretty early in February whether there will be a third season for Jericho. I’d wager she’s right. If the ratings are decent, due to the strike, CBS is more likely than in previous years to pick it up for the fall, given that the regular pilot season is being decimated. “I’m just guessing here, but I would imagine that probably, they usually start to have an opinion around the third airing, so usually by then your fate can be sealed in terms of it not going well,” she said. ”… Obviously they can’t order any more if the writers’ strike is still going on, but I would imagine I would get a phone call and, you know, start thinking about season three.”
• A good idea on how to recruit new fans to the show, from the Jericho message boards. It involves radio stations and the song “Tick Tick Boom,” by The Hives.
• I previously blogged on the fact that Season 2 seems so much like the Jake and Hawkins show (not that that’s a bad thing, by any means!), and Barbee confirms that in an interview with SciFiWire. Because an entire season’s worth of plot was crammed into seven episodes, they had to go strictly with “A-story,” she said. “There is no treading water. Something huge happens in every episode: major character changes, deaths, love, loss, war, the whole thing.”
• The second annual Jerichon has been scheduled and announced. It’ll be May 23-26, Memorial Day weekend, in Oakley, Kansas. On-set dresser Mike Loomer will be among the guests. Guardians of Jericho are again organizing.
• Kristen of E!Online has Eight Things You Should Know about Jericho. The most important, IMHO? Gail Green (Pamela Reed) will be back for at least one episode this season. Yay! The weirdest? They’re using the old Beverly Hills 90210 set! The rest? Most has been covered here or elsewhere, but still worth reading. I didn’t think anything was particularly spoiler-y.

Thanks Amy. You’re just full of exciting news today!!!
Thanks Amy, that all made for some very interesting reading! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for renewal news after the third episode.
Oh my gosh, the pick up on the reruns by SciFi is AWESOME! Lots of great news today! Thanks for pulling it together for us Amy! I too have my fingers crossed, but I think given the current t.v. climate due to the strike, Jericho has a REAL shot at Season 3!
Wow, Sci Fi channel, this could not be better news in my opinion. Thanks for the post, always a great read.
Thanks Amy for that information. I cant wait to see the new “short” season and the reruns on Sci Fi… great news!
I am so happy that Sci Fi channel picked up season one and two. Anything could happen with season 3. Excited-yes. I can’t wait for Feb 12!
Amy,
That is amazing news for Jericho fans. It’s the right channel and the right time. Fans might want to cheer this one up.
Best,
Rich
