In its continuing effort to ensure that no one ever has any idea when any show they might possibly at some point be interested in maybe checking out, NBC has replaced its heavily hyped premiere of The Baby Borrowers with the Dan Cortese (yeah, you remember him?) vehicle, My Dad is Better than Your Dad (which should be subtitled, “Neener, Neener”).
Borrowers, the show where “five diverse teenage couples—ages 18-20″ (extending the traditional definition of “teen”) are “fast-track[ed] to adulthood by setting up a home, getting a job and becoming caring parents first to babies, toddlers, pre-teens and their pets, teenagers and senior citizens—all over the course of three weeks,” was supposed to premiere Feb. 18.
Now, Dad takes its place in the 8 p.m. timeslot, taking over after American Gladiators finishes its first season (it’s already been picked up for Season 2).
Why? At this point, we don’t know. NBC simply says it “will move to a later date to be announced.”
Dad, for what it’s worth, “is a high-energy, family-friendly competition series.” Cortese hosts. Dads’ strength, smarts and teamwork with hits son or daughter are all put to the test. The winner’s kid does, however, get the ultimate schoolyard bragging rights, I suppose.
In other game show news, Amne$ia premieres at 9 p.m. Feb. 22 (a Friday), following the 1 vs 100 season finale. Dennis Miller hosts the “comedy quiz show,” which a week later moves to its regular timeslot, 8 p.m.
Amne$ia seems like a less obnoxious version of Fox’s The Moment of Truth. NBC describes it thusly:
Amne$ia is a thrilling comedy-game show where contestants are challenged to answer a variety of questions from their own life for money. Memories will be tested and blasts-from-the-past will be revealed as contestants wrack their brains to answer some of the most challenging questions—often with hilarious results.
