It's official: More 'Lost' THIS season — WHEE!

Wow, the writers’ strike finally ends and one of the first announcements is that we’re getting more “Lost” this season?!?
It must be my super-duper lucky day!
Yup, fantabulous exec producer Carlton Cuse told TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello that—after a long meeting with ABC’s head honchos—the official plan is to produce five more episodes of “Lost” before the end of May.
That amounts to a total of 13 episodes, three fewer than the 16-episode season that was originally envisioned.
Cuse says that stories will have to be streamlined in order to cut those three installments: The writers are back at work today to figure out how to make that happen.
(Too bad this didn’t happen last season: Maybe we wouldn’t have been subjected to the horrible Nikki and Paolo.)
Anyway, Lost-philes, don’t think we’re getting cheated out of those three episodes. We were promised 48 episodes in the final three seasons, and we’re gonna get ‘em. Cuse promises they’ll be folded in somewhere down the road.
(Translation: The final 35 episodes of the series will be split between seasons 5 and 6.)
Last piece of news: Unfortunately, there will be a break between the eight pre-strike episodes and the newly produced shows of the season. The series just can’t ramp up production quick enough to eliminate the gap.
That means we’ll get a four-week break, starting in late March. Then “Lost” will come roaring back with the late April showers for the final five—YIPPEE!
But of course, we couldn’t talk about “Lost” without some intrigue.
So here’s another mystery yet to be solved: Who’s going to win the Thursday 9 p.m. time slot?
