Katching up with Kyle XY

February
27

The last couple of episodes of Kyle XY have really pushed the story toward the edge of something huge. There’s just two episodes left, so hopefully we’ll really get somewhere by season’s end.

Adam Baylin is totally recovered. Sarah, Jessi’s progenitor, is dead because she was always pushing herself too hard and was psychotically competitive. Brian’s been kicked out of Latnok because he never told anyone that he was creating Jessi. Lori is bicker-flirting with Stephen’s TA and Declan’s jealous. Amanda’s mom is finally backing off a little bit and is even going to let Amanda go to prom with Kyle. Andy’s cancer is completely in remission because Kyle made it so! And Hillary can cook. I mean, she can really cook gourmet food.

There’s a lot to deal with here, so let me start by saying: No way is Sarah dead.

It seems exceedingly obvious to me that she’s the one who left the record on Jessi’s bed, she’s the one who sent the e-mail to Kyle telling him to “listen.” (Who other than her and Adam would have known about the background message in the record? Maybe Brian, but he seemed puzzled that Jessi had gotten a copy of the record.)

So Sarah’s not dead. What does that mean as to where she’s been all these years? Has Adam been lying and he knows she’s alive? (I don’t think so. He really seemed genuine when he said he’d backed off from Sarah when she became too obsessively competitive.) Does Brian know? (I really couldn’t read his reaction when he saw his copy of the record was still in the cabinet — was he merely puzzled or was he wondering if it was Sarah or was there something even more sinister at work?)

Was Sarah borne like Adam, extra time in the womb to make her smarter? I’m assuming this is the case.

Speaking of Adam, what really happened between them that caused the rift? I can’t imagine Adam just one day got annoyed at her competitiveness. She had to have done something really crazy or mean for him to just let her go. They obviously loved one another a great deal.

Was that break what caused her to go to Brian and start the Jessi project (OK, I know I’ve just taken a huge leap in assumptions here, but stay with me, I think I’m onto something. Either that or I’m so totally wrong that it’ll be comedic when the truth comes out)? And what happened between Brian and Adam to cause Brian to hate Adam so much? Was Brian just always jealous because Adam was so much smarter (and nicer)? How did Brian and Adam know each other? Where does Foss fit into this?

So this is what I think: When Adam broke up with or otherwise split from Sarah, she became distraught, but it also spurred her on even more, competition-wise. Brian fed off that; he possibly loved her, too, and always was jealous of Adam and Sarah’s relationship. So they faked Sarah’s death and started the Jessi project. Adam had been unsuccessful so far in his XY project; surely Sarah believed she could be successful with an XX project. And Brian could get all of Latnok’s knowledge for his own Madacorp.

That’s right, I said it: Madacorp is run by Brian. I don’t think Latnok was necessarily pulling the strings at Madacorp. Brian implied that was the case, but what did they really know about what was going on there? And if Latnok didn’t know about Jessi, Madacorp certainly did.

Or, is Latnok lying to Adam and they knew full well what Brian was doing?

OK, I just gave myself a headache.

So onto other issues:

• Did Kyle actually cure Andy or would she have been in remission anyhow? I don’t suppose we’ll ever know, but the implication, of course, is that Kyle cured her. I mean, he got the nosebleed, his brain went on the fritz and the lights flickered.

• How awesome was Jessi’s teaching technique — every time Josh got a wrong answer, he had to do pushups? That was fantabulous.

• How was it that Daddy Traeger couldn’t figure out that Lori and his TA had the hots for one another. No relative strangers bicker like that when they don’t totally want to jump each other’s bones. Declan couldn’t even handle being in the same room as them.

• Will we find out soon whether Ally Sheedy was indeed cast as Jessi XX’s genetic mom?

Anything else I forget to address?

Interesting theories you’ve thrown out there and I certainly think your scenario is plausible! I also agree that Sarah isn’t dead. It will be interesting to see how things shape up, that’s for sure!
