Jericho: Termination for Cause, live thoughts

March
11

SPOILER ALERT, blah, blah, blah. Don’t read if you didn’t watch. Got it?

Rule No. 1: Don’t mess with Hawkins.

Best line of the episode (OK, besides Trish telling Goetz that he’s fired): “They’ve got three less than they had before,” Hawkins’ way of telling Jake that he’d taken out some of the Ravenwood men.

What’s going on Goetz? I’ll tell you what’s going on — Rob Hawkins has arrived. Rule No. 2: Don’t mess with Hawkins.

Look, I know that Fred felt trapped. But c’mon. He’s a bastard. He should have fessed up to Jake; Jake could have helped him.

Aww, Bill, Jimmy’s not chubby; he’s just big-boned.

Goetz hanging there at the end? Look, I’m not a violent person, but that was awesome. Totally deserved.

New Bern wants Heather dead? Not good. Russell had one thing right: Next time it wouldn’t be Russell.

Look. Constantino was a bad man. But he was pushed into it by the devastation Ravenwood wrought on New Bern. If Ravenwood had never pillaged New Bern, Constantino and Johnston probably could have worked together easily. Now? Bad times.

And here’s a whole mess of Jericho links to recent articles…

• Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz gave this excellent interview with IF Magazine.

There’s a lot to Jennings & Rall that we didn’t get a chance to get into in the short Season Two, so there’s still a lot left for them. We also never really thought, or think of them as uniformly evil. That was why Trish’s character was so important to us, to show that a giant company you presume to be evil is probably almost entirely made up of people just trying to live their lives and do their jobs. Even among the guys making the decisions at the top; no one’s twisting their moustaches and eating puppies. Human nature is a lot more complicated—and interesting, I think—than that.

• The Deadbolt.com has a solid interview with Mimi herself, Alicia Coppola.
I am in a tough spot because I think I’m guilty, I feel guilty, because of Bonnie and the stupid ledger. You know this ledger that had all of the evidence, it had all of the information and the fact that it was left at the home and the fact that both Bonnie and I got in harms way over the ledger. If you think about it, it was over $10,000, which to us may not seem like a lot of money, but for the people in Jericho and Jennings and Rall it’s a huge amount of money.

• Brad Beyer talked to TV Guide about the future of Jericho. And Bonnie’s death.
I was very sad. Working with Shoshannah Stern has been one of the best experiences that I’ve ever had. She’s amazingly talented. I thought the relationship between Stanley and Bonnie was one of the show’s strongest. I had very mixed feelings about [losing Bonnie]. It’s a definite loss to the show. As an actor, I get to [now] go places that I probably wouldn’t have.

• Dan Mosqueda takes a look at the Constitutional issues raised by the Cheyenne government’s existence.
The so-called President of the Allied States says the Flag vertical stripes represent a “change in direction” for the nation. To that end, the Mayor of Jericho is asked to attend the Constitutional Convention, to which he feigns being honored, but later confides he wanted to keep his thoughts, namely the questionable authority of the “Cheyenne” government, to himself so he has a chance to express them.

• The Watertown Daily Times wrote about how Fort Drum’s 10th Mountain Division in upstate New York served as partial inspiration for Jericho.
The real-world 10th Mountain Division — one of the most storied units in Army history — has been in a nearly continuous deployment mode since the war on terror began in 2001.

• Bonnie may be gone, but she is not forgotten. Shoshannah Stern is the subject of an article in The Jewish Exponent.
I know that I will probably never be a Bond girl or a superhero. I also know that there is a new profound interest in things that are different and interesting. So far, it seems like I’ve proved both sides of myself right.

• Shelby over at Jericho4Kids had this excellent interview with this week’s Jericho heroine, Emily Rose, who plays Trish Merrick.
She is very sweet and fun to chat with!! I found out that she and I have a lot in common and that is very kcool!! Check out this awesome interview that will leave you saying BAM, WHAP and POW!!

Come back tomorrow for a more in-depth recap, and don’t forget the weekly Blackjack Fairgrounds Jericho Blog Carnival, on Friday. Plus, Clarke provides the guest recap this week, to be posted Friday.

It really was an incredible episode. Hawkins is now my hero!

  2. Welcome2CHO

Major Hawkins ass-kicking tonight! He’s the guy I want to have my back.

And that scene with Stanely saying goodbye to Bonnie—brilliant acting on his part and an amazing means of showing what a unique, incredible bond they shared. I cried like a baby.

I agree that seeing Goetz in the tree in front of the New Bern sign was just perfect. I am sorry that Stanley crossed that “line” of what I would call purity that we all have seen in him, exacting his revenge on Goetz for Bonnie. I think him throwing up afterward was exactly what I would have expected him to do. I loved this episode tho and am glad I watched it live!!

OMG….was tonight another incredible night or what. From Stanley talking to Bonnie, that ripped me up, then Hawkins crushing bones to get to Darcey. Then everyone wanting Goetz, and then Stanley….
All I can say is Wow, Wow, Wow…....!

  5. Yvonne (auntvonna)

OMG, where to start! So many things stood out in this episode!!! First of all, Alicia with her acting-her reaction to Bonnie’s death with just her reaction! Then there was Stanley saying good bye to Bonne…I think I actually bawled more than I did when Johnston died, if that’s possible. The Mr. Hawkins snapping that guys neck like a freaking twig, WTG! How about the humorous moment with Jimmy and Bill, priceless! And OMG, Russell is back, but wth, they want Heather dead?! Yes, Trish telling Goetz he’s fired, priceless! But the ending, OMG, the ending! HOLY CROW! WOW!!!! woohoo!

Two things: Tonight’s morse code said “A costly death” and Skeet was on Regis and Kelly as well as the early show promoting yesterday! Whoot! Check it out on Digg (videos are on youtube, if you didn’t get a shout, look for “Skeet on Live” and “Skeet on Early”, you’ll find them!)

OH, and I was so excited, I couldn’t type, LOL! I meant Mimi’s reaction with just a look, no words. Oh, and I left out an “I” in one of the Bonnie’s. Frack!

  7. Denise

Honestly, if JERICHO doesn’t get another season, I will go through some major withdrawal. This show has me on the edge of my seat every Tuesday night; on the edge of my seat every Wednesday morning; on the edge of my seat…......well never mind. My obsession is showing.

I love the episodes with commentary. I wonder who will provide the commentary on “Termination for Cause”.

Can a show be any better??? I don’t think so.
I really will not understand if CBS does not renew JERICHO.

Are you sure about the Morse code being A costly death, because I thought that was last weeks’s code?

    JERICHO TOTALLY ROCKS!!

WE MUST HAVE A THIRD SEASON!!!

    SNAKES could get messy!!!

  9. Seymour

Possibly the best episode to date.

  10. Charlene

This episode had me on the edge of my seat the entire hour.
Poor Stanly with Bonnie was making me cry and I was feeling so bad for Darcy having to tell Mimi about Bonnie.
I had a feeling that Stanley was going to get Goetz.
Any word Amy on the ratings yet?
