The 7-Year Itch on “Smallville”

Ya know how they talk about the infamous 7-year itch when it comes to marriage? Seems like the syndrome is also hitting the cast of “Smallville.” “TV Guide’s” Michael Ausiello says that now that her contract is ending, Kristin Kreuk won’t be returning next season as a series regular. That’s fine with me. Her up, down, up, down relationship with Clark has definitely run its course, especially since the “new” Lana now finds Clark kinda boring. And we all know that, according to the mythology, Clark—or at least Superman—will end up with Lois anyway.
Ausiello also reports that Michael Rosenbaum’s Lex is also on his own chopping block. The billionaire baldy’s alter ego also probably wants to head for different pastures. And who can blame them? Seven years can be a long time to play one character. Sure, the money is steady and good, but the hours are long, they’re isolated up in Vancouver for much of the year and they don’t want to be pigeon-holed as Lana Lang and Lex Luthor (not that they probably aren’t already.)
And here’s the bombshell. A long-running character will meet his/her maker—and permanently, no meteor-freak funny stuff this time—on the April 17 episode. My guess? Lana will bite dust. After all, Lex Luthor is also part of Superman’s future as an adult.
Ausiello mentioned nothing about Alison Mack’s Chloe leaving town. The fiesty and fun blonde is the last supporting character I’d want to see leave the show. P.S.: This Thursday’s episode is new and brings back Clark’s bud Pete, who left town a few years ago. (Photo courtesy of the CW.)

PEEEEETE! I loved Pete back in those early episodes! Glad to see he’ll be back on, even if it’s just a cameo.
AMEN. CHLOE has to STAY!
NO LANA NO RATINGS!
CHLOE ROCKS! ALLISON ROCKS! SHE HAS TO STAY! ALSO YAY PETE! I loved Pete!
Unfortunately, Lana won’t die because she’s part of the comics in Superman’s life. If they could only stop the Clana once and for all, the show would improve 100%. Most likely, Lionel will die.
